TECH guys a router question

Postby skylinechild » February 15th, 2010, 1:21 pm

i want to purchase a new DSL router so i wont have to use the junk that TSTT does give you when you get blink...

so i found this item

basically it's a router with wireless N, gigabit ports and DSL capabilities all rolled into one.

Image

the tech specs says

Standards

* IEEE 802.11n version 2.0
* IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b 2.4 GHz
* WAN (ADSL): ITU 992.1 (G.dmt) Annex A, ITU 992.2 (G.lite), ITU 992.3 ADSL2(G.dmt.bis), ITU 992.5 ADSL2+

Physical Specifications

* Dimensions: 223 x 153 x 31 mm (8.8 x 6.0 x 1.2 in)
* Weight: 0.5 kg (1.2 lb)

Features

* Privacy & parental controls
* Double firewall protection
* Denial-of-service (DoS) attack prevention
* Intrusion detection and prevention (IDS)
* Wi-Fi Protected Accessâ„¢ (WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK) and WEP
* Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS)—push-button and PIN
* Push 'N' Connect using Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) and Smart Wizard®
* Exposed host (DMZ) for secure gaming
* Supports Wireless Multimedia (WMM) based Quality of Service (QoS)

my question is if it is NOT compatible with TSTT network can i still use the device for it's wireless and gigabit capabilities...?

or should i just get this router and done and just use it with TSTT DSL modem?

basically this one is just a router with gigabit ports and wireless N..i'll still have to use TSTT DSL modem with this one-

Image

Standards

* IEEE 802.11n specification, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b, 2.4 GHz
* 5 (1 WAN, 4 LAN) Gigabit Ethernet ports

Physical Specifications

* Dimensions: 175 x 130 x 35 mm (6.89 x 5.12 x 1.38 in)
* Weight: 0.33 kg (0.72 lb)

Features

* Live Parental Controls with flexible and customizable filter settings, installation available on Resource CD
* Broadband usage meter
* Double firewall protection
* Denial-of-service (DoS) attack prevention
* Intrusion detection and prevention (IDS)
* Wi-Fi Protected Accessâ„¢ (WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK) and WEP
* Push 'N' Connect using Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) and Smart Wizard®

which one should i buy and remember i trying NOT to use TSTT modem.

if the first one is NOT compatible with TSTT network can i still use the device for it's wireless and gigabit capabilities...?

i guess all tuner has is a set of linksys groupies who "think" linksys is superior to netgear cause linksys is a division of cisco....

but seriously though....i want an answer to my first post...

The answer is: netgear sucks, so dont buy netgear because we think it sucks.

I combined all three posts by TK, Fuzz Master and Soundwave for you in an easy to read sentence.

As much as net gear isn't superior as linksys and other top brands yes you would be still able to use it's wireless capabilities but netgear has a problem with it comes to controlling the flow of bandwidth so if u plan on doing online gaming via wireless prepare to see the other laptops or PC that connected wireless also, suffer

been using a Netgear WNR2000 for the past 8 months or so with tstt,works perfect,no dropped wireless signals on the 5 pc's in here,much better coverage all over the house on wireless G than my old Linksys WRT54.Never tried to control the bandwidth with any device like Trini_tech said though.

i've been using netgear for the past 2 yrs....and no problems.....i have the rangemax wireless router W824 is the model i think....it works great... it's ABG but not N and not gigabit and not ADSL or ADSL2+......

so i thinking about buying the new one so it will be able to do everything...

I have the exact Netgear router (2nd Photo) and I get good signal on my laptop all over my house; upstairs, downstairs and even outside. I can also stream movies wirelessly from my laptop to my 360 no problem. This is an excellent product. Check this video review from Computer TV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBqioOBtT24

Filled with win.

ru$$ell wrote:Linksys WRT54.

Filled with fail.

I use both of them atm. And it's like day and night.

At home I use a netgear though. Dunno the model offhand, one of the white ones you get at Dell. It's also filled with win. The range is amazing and I hosted games a lot.
