Trial date soon for 2 charged with Sean Luke's murder

A TRIAL date for two men charged with the 2006 murder of four-year-old Sean Luke may be announced in the next two weeks.
The case against Akeel Mitchell, 19, and Richard Chatoo, 22, came up for hearing yesterday before Justice Malcolm Holdip in the San Fernando First Criminal Court.
Attorneys Wayne Sturge and Keith Scotland, who are representing the two accused, were absent from court.
Attorney Christon Williams held for them and said they were both ready to have the matter started.
"Both attorneys asked that it be treated with urgency," Williams said.
State attorney Angelica Teelucksingh said the prosecution was also ready to begin the case.
Mitchell and Chatoo have been jointly charged with killing Luke in a cane field near his Orange Valley,
Couva home back in March 2006.
An autopsy found that the child died from internal bleeding caused when a cane stalk was inserted through the rectum.
Holdip yesterday adjourned the case to October 1 for "possible fixture".
Before the matter was called, Holdip also spoke of the poor condition of the courtroom, including a malfunctioning air-conditioning unit and late arrival of prisoners.
He said a contractor was being paid millions of dollars to transport prisoners and the company was living up to the motto, Justice on Time.
"I want to make it clear that it is putting a strain on operations of the Judiciary when over 75 minutes elapses before First Court prisoners are brought up (to the courtrooms) on the first working day of the law term," he said.
Holdip also spoke of the neighbouring Magistrates' Court where he said the roof is partially covered by a yellow tarpaulin.

this and thats all folks...from what ive heard prisons officers expose guys like these to all the inmates and apparently the prisoners dont take to kindly to child molesters or anything of that sort so softening for sure.i know one officer who just waiting patiently for them to enroll so he could deal real justice

Why aren’t their parents dead as a reminder of what will happen when they come out of prison?

The case recently restarted so let’s hope they get what they deserve i.e - daily gang rapes in maximum prison and life of torture when their time is up if they survive.
