Have you factory reset the unit?

This is why you need your own router. Go and buy one tomorrow and just turn off Flow's built in router, I'm sure the problem will disappear. Or else you have to call and ask for a technician to come to your house to fix this problem because those CSRs on the phone don't know jack and they're reading from a script of instructions.

From what I'm reading, the NAT is set to strict Type 3 on Flow's end. Not the router, but through the public ip address they're providing. It's a default security setting and it looks like it happened when they pushed the last automatic update?

Couple solutions i'm seeing is to call the ISP and
1. request that they change the NAT on their side to open. This is a deep setting that a CSR cannot comprehend. This isn't in the router in your house, it's at their end. You have to escalate this to a network engineer and hopefully he will know what you're talking about.

2. Request a static ip address. This would be an open private ip address for you alone. Should have no NAT security settings on a static ip, and the fact that using a VPN solves the issue means exactly what i said above about the default NAT security public ip address.

3. Some suggested that you enable IPv6 in your router and set your DNS to any appropriate public IPv6 DNS.
IPv6 does not use NAT, because it is unnecessary unless they use NAT64.
Go into WAN settings, disable DHCP (regular IPv4) under "Dynamic" tab, then go to the Dynamic IPv6 tab and make sure it's enabled and use Cloudflare's DNS 2606:4700:4700::1111 and 2606:4700:4700::1001
Save settings. Reboot the entire unit, not just the router.
Note: I dunno if this will work eh, but try it. You can always just change it back to default if it's not working.
In PS5 network settings, you can disable the DCHP and enable IPv6 and the problem should disappear too.

I don't bother calling flow unless I have obvious serious issues I can't fix myself. Most of their techs are clueless and will seriously test your patience. This is one area digicel is much better.

I can definitely say it's nothing with equipment because I called Flow and spoke to a CSR that admitted they switched from a public IP to a private one for security and stability issues. He said that port forwarding / dmz will no longer work on my package but he still sent my issue up the line.

isnt a public address default for a wan/internet facing ip
and private is default for lan/internal network?

more like they decide not to pay for more ipv4 space with they cheap self. Probably doing carrier-grade NAT on a small pool of IPs now, sry for ppl who use streaming or file sharing sites that lock down to IP.

For those with similar NAT issues what's your starting IP? First 3 digits

131?

Right so update got it sorted out with a actual proper rep that understands

My package was the old 75meg which was a shared IP address.. Fix for it was to finally give in and take the 100meg package which gives me a public IP address and boom everything working like butter again...

Well, well, well!!! That a convenient "fix" wasn't it!
"It would be a shame if... Oops it suddenly stopped working? Just like that, for no reason? Wow I don't know what's causing this... But it can work again if you give us more money."

Oh I'm so grateful Flow, you deliberately created a problem and then fixed it and raised my rates.

Flow called me this morning begging to upgrade my package to 200, I said NO and ended the call there.

That's 100% true. The CSR I spoke to said that the only was he can "think" about fixing my issue was for me to upgrade to the 100mb package. He said at that speed, they use a public IP.

Well bro bite the bullet... Worked for me
I set their modem to bridge and using my router for everything else
I also asked the tech to turn off the flow open WiFi but he said he don't have access to that at his level again or something on that line...

Yeah bro, sadly thinking about upgrading even though that extra 25mb isn't necessary for me.

Say what...

Well this would explain alot.
Because when i had 75mb it worked like sheit at peak times even tho i wasnt using the full 75.
But from the moment it upgraded to 150, it was bess and has been bess ever since.

gastly, turning off that flow wifi is a next scene. you need to request it be turned off on your account, not just your modem. you can do it yourself in the modem settings by the way...once you are in bridge mode u can turn off the wifi radios.

I turn off the WiFi 2.4 and 5ghz...even hide ssid and still seeing flow open WiFi on devices... Another thing is

Overnight the 2.4 and 5ghz does turn back on by itself after some hrs.. But when you go into modem u seeing them off.. Have to turn on and turn off again and will turn off for a few hrs.... Idk lol and they keep channel clashing with my router I'll have to manual set some new channels for mines now

Yesterday I was getting what felt symptomatic of slow dns resolution, maybe like it was failing primary and then hitting the fallback.
BUT I'm on SmartDNS stuff, using Flow's pipes.

I just cleaned the dns cache on my lappy and it kinda sorted it.
