It could be that the audio wasn't coded properly, especially if it's a bootleg copy.

Otherwise, make sure that your speakers are connected properly and try using just the regular stereo (2 speaker) setting and see if that makes a difference.

check speakers settings if is 5.1 audio and settings in player .. use VLC or GOM player.. and make sure audio jacks are setup properly for 5.1..check our audio manager program normaly for proper settings

1. download and install k-lite codec pack.
2. check your audio output setup. sounds like you have the speakers plugged into the surround port.

this.
if encoded in stereo, and playback is set to 5.1, you get what the OP described.

ok i forgot to mention that i have a logitech x530
the asus on board sound ports are just 3 ports & the colours are i think redish/pinkish, green (centre) & blue, BUT the logitech jacks are different...they're black, green & orange....
so who goes into who...well besides the green.
i tried interchangin the blue with black & the orange with pink viceversa & i am only gettin the front speakers to work, so i jus using the adapter that cam with the logitech to convert the 3 jackks to aux to headphone & i plug the headphone into the green & well all playing (all speakers, sub) but jus the major prob witht the movies....as mentioned....

based on how you have your system setup, your speakers will only operate in STEREO mode. not Surround.
If you have your speakers (in windows control panel) set to 5.1 then you will not hear everything.

you could leave your audio settings to 5.1 if you want and still play the movie to get a stereo output

just right click in vlc and select audio ---> audio device ---> stereo
