Wish suruj would help his own constituents by the Guaracara Hindu School and pave the road.

Is only a few meters, big contract passing for back roads but the one road leading to the only primary school in the area cyah get fixed. Cepep making it worst by cleaning the drains and blocking the inlets with the debris they remove so the water stays on the roadway.

Engineers in Trinidad can't build roads

I have never seen a country that needs to keep rebuilding roads every 5 years or less

I think they should revamp the UWI engineering department

Plus the road is being destroyed by 10 ton trucks everyday heading to the quarry.

Why can't roads be built on concrete foundation??

This observation is so accurate, that knowing our undisputable history in this business .I wonder how can an industry so easily lose its sense of pride and descend to become a murderous bunch of practitioners.
To be clear, the so called engineers, techs and contractors in my humble view can take huge responsibility for many deaths on our roadways.
The fundamental fact is this bunch of jokers don't have one individual with the strength of character to stand up and refuse to facilitate this persistent mayhem.
The minister 'poor thing' is clueless and the real players are running circles around him.
BTW, Minister are easily controlled by technocrats since they normally don't know the business they are required to govern and you basically only have to feed them what they want to hear.
Presently, the Minister Of Energy surrounded by a bunch of retired MOE PS'S now figuring out he hasn't been getting the full truth about our oil and gas condition.Foreign investors whose plants getting licks (with curtailments) are due to ratch-up the heat.
.....My apologises for digressing a bit......point is the crap runs deep and we are hapless victims.

For example since I was a kid the road by San Fernando tech, every year they were putting asphalt upon asphalt. Only last year major work was done.

I thought this was a south issue but some roads in POS is just as bad

I noticed the quarry owner buying materials to fix the road himself but he lack of equipment to handle the job properly will just see square one on repeat.

Dunno why the ministry or conciliar don't assist these business men who willing to help.

The contractors do poor quality work; the engineers reject it; the contractor calls up the (Prime) Minister for some chit chat about house renovations, US (Miami) bank account money transfers and Arden Range Rovers; and presto, the poor quality work stays in place and the contractor gets paid the full amount.

I will admit that there are some unscrupulous and incompetent technocrats out there who would just tow the line that the (Prime) Minister is holding. But there are also some who hold their ground for proper quality work and seek the tax payers' interests.

The contractors are in bed with the govt. The consultant/engineer can only do so much.

This is every Government ploy
They will not do the proper thing because this is how the ministers and PM make there "extra" $$$$
And the country just goes in circles while a few get rich off of taxpayers :(

Unfortunately this is the the truth and could be extended to the very large construction projects as well. Desal plant , Airport , Brian Lara Stadium to name a few and today we are hearing of the new cycling facility that is to built to international standards to get accreditation but is currently 20Mn over budget and not making the grade .
