Thanks. Just watched your demo. But you cannot see the license plate in the car in front of you. Do you have one that is of a better quality. Also from the sound .. I bet you drive a diesel truck ! Sounds like a Navara Diesel Truck.

Now coming across this thread, being interested in a car dash cam.

I was going for this one for over US$300:

http://www.amazon.com/Finevu-CR-500HD-V ... CJO97QLBLA

But thanks to the other links, I think I will settle for this:

http://dashcamtalk.com/livue-lb100/

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... ink:top:en

Just US$115

Like I said, I acquired the Livue LB100:

http://dashcamtalk.com/livue-lb100/

http://eng.livue.co.kr/

So far I am satisfied. I will upload a couple videos in due course.

Likes:

- very good recording by day (easily picks up license plates of parked vehicles you drive past)
- motion detection when car is parked (reverse parking ftw)
- Mic is good
- was able to fit camera in front of rearview mirror

Dislikes:

- camera is fairly visible from outside car, so not stealth, the silver lens doesn't help. Time to tint car...
- mounting tape as opposed to suction cup, so place it right the first time!
- Micro SD card is a pain to insert or remove
- at night you cant make out plates unless you right up under car, or at a standstill (but then is only 720p)

Still trying to figure out how to turn off voice prompts (in case of actual break-in, dont want thief to get an audio alert and try to move with camera)

Only thing left is to get the accessory to wire it directly to the fuse box and I'm good to go

I bought one off e bay about 2 years ago but now I have some issues with it.
One thing you should note is that a lot of these are from china , it works well most of the time
but locks up at times and need resetting , so it is not always dependable.
At times during playback video is not recorded properly so cannot be viewed.

The instructions in the manual is printed very small and are not always easy to understand since conversion is done from Chinese to English so the translator tries to fine the closest matching english word.
But you can play around with the unit so figure out the controls.

These units carry a rechargeable battery that has a limited lifespan. You have to open up unit and unsolder the battery provided that you can get it. My unit needs a replacement battery .
It can work without this battery but once you switch off car unit will go out and on power up next time your time and date will be wrong... it will go to some default value.

I am however thinking about using one of those security DVR and camera ( 2 0r 4 channel ) setup like what pricemart or prw sells and run the unit off an inverter.

I just bought a dashcam about 2 weeks ago, and so far it's great. The quality at day and night is very nice and it records license plates clearly with no issues. It has a decent size screen on it, so I could replay a video on the spot, if needed. I also have a mount for it that clamps onto my rearview mirror, so it's very discreet. I paid about $100 for it (plus $20 for a 32GB microSD), so it's a great deal for something small and high quality.

I use the g1wh in our cars. Excellent quality for price but it has a clash with sandisk extreme class 10 cards.

I have a couple G1W (not Black Box though, different branding). I use SanDisk 32GB Class 10 and they work perfect. :D
They did however cost more than the Black Box version in the Amazon Link.

Yup 2 of my g1wh work with sandisk ultra class 10 cards that I bought at the same time with them. The one I had before refuses to work with them though

Well I guess this is the official dash cam thread.

Actually forgot to pick up one yesterday or do any research as a matter of fact. I see the last post in here was two years ago, have cams gotten cheaper or advanced in video quality since?

The one Yeo posted looks good, anything better since?

My dad uses an Asus Reco Classic and it seems to be working good.. you can get it on amazon for about 99£
It has a g-sensor that triggers an emergency record function in case of an accident eg If your car is parked and gets hit , and a gps speed camera that gives audio warnings as a reminder to maintain a safe speed and stuff

Personally i just use the entry level gopro hero.. its around 129$ on amazon ..set it on the wide angle and youre good to go tho it isnt designed to be a dash cam and you wouldnt get the features like gps and emergency collision recording etc but it works fine...
