WTK Local Warranty for Samsung Phones

Postby Kish » February 17th, 2012, 2:41 pm

I called samsung support and they game me some numbers for companies in Trinidad that should honour the warranty, but when I called I kept getting run arounds.

Does anyone know who actually honours warranties for say a Samsung Galaxy S2 phone? I know there should be someone in Trinidad who should do it but just need to find said company.

I didn't buy one as yet but is there anyone in Trinidad who would offer the same manufacturer's warranty then. Warranty is always a touchy subject, but the cost to ship it back to Samsung may be too great, then customs charges again when it gets back.

Interesting indeed. I've never had the need to send back an item, but very interesting.

Articles of Export will avoid customs charges when coming back in from repairs.

Even with this, Customs still charges you on the invoiced cost of the repairs.

However, if it is repaired under warranty (i.e. free), there are no Customs charges.

I once contacted Sony to repair my PS3 a few years ago when the bluray lens died. they sent an empty box and customs charged me duty and vat on an empty shipping box for the PS3. With ZERO value ie. I ended up just going on eBay and ordered a lens and replaced it myself.

The box is designed to snug fit the PS3 so it won't rock or move when shipping, but cardboard design.

Anyone ever got a phone that was not a Latin American model repaired under the Samsung warranty at Diamond Systems?
On their Facebook page, Diamond Systems claims they are an authorized Samsung service center. So I called and asked if they would offer warranty service for a phone from the UK. Person said they honor the warranty on Latin American models only.
Is there any other local authorized Samsung service center other than Diamond Systems?

all reps locally would only offer support for the latin america spec devices, unlike apple that would honour globally.
you'd have to send back to the UK for the claim....

Call the Samsung UK support number. I assume you had registered your product when you bought it. Tell them you're in TT for business for 3 months and need your phone fixed as soon as they can. Hopefully the local authorized dealer can repair it.

This trick worked for me through Dell Canada for a laptop and the local authorized people fixed it under the Canada purchase warranty. I had registered the product when purchased on Dell.ca. I was first informed that I need to purchase international warranty when I had first contacted Dell Latin America support. Hope it'll work for you.

Thanks tr1ad and maj. tom. Fortunately, I don't have a defective phone. I just wanted to be sure that I can get warranty service locally before I bought a phone. Was looking to purchase from a local vendor where a friend bought hers. She thought her phone was a UK model because she got a UK travel charger in the sealed box. Had a look just now and it's actually an EU charger. So I called the vendor and they said all their phones come from the US. Kinda odd that a US supplied phone would have an EU charger but an online search of the model number indicates it's available in Latin America, Brazil, Europe, International.

Well honestly sometimes local vendors buy EU models and sell them in Trinidad, if its a Samsung device ensure that it has an SL logo on the box to indicate Latin America to our region and make sure to register the device to get warranty.
