Looks like Google FINALLY updated their satellite imagery for Trinidad, at least for the most part. First time the interchange can be seen through it.
Also, for a while now, Apple also updated their imagery for their Maps.

I'm seeing the old imagery, what was updated was the roads overlay, probably due to the updates from Waze

Google MapMaker/OpenStreetMaps/Waze Map Editor | Mapping T&T

Postby SRASC » February 12th, 2015, 6:46 pm

I'm seeing the new imagery. For instance none of the work by the interchange was viewable prior to the update, since it was dated to 2006 and all.

As far as the road overlay myself and Shazaden did most of those changes though it was basically an educated placement since there was no imagery to match it up with at the time, except for the east to south part of the interchange which I traced out with an app years ago and applied onto the map.

Though it is more up to date than when it launched Apple Maps now is behind Google.

Kind of odd what's going on there. I used a Windows computer earlier and it showed up with the updated imagery. Back on my Mac, still the same old, though in Map Maker it shows the new imagery as well as in Waze's Map Editor

Updates shown on Google Earth Pro. It seems some imagery is from 10/2014 to 2/2015. Some of the E-W corridor up to about trincity was done. A good bit still outdated/clouded though.

Apple Maps has the DMHEP as far as their imagery. Now if only anything else could work and/or could fix some of the obvious errors it still has.

If any you have this problem on waze where all your favourites just disappear, just type in this ##@restorefav in the search bar and search.

This happened to me twice and this restored it. Not sure why it happened in the first place, though...

You may remember the fiasco back in May wherein defacements were being discovered in Google Maps due to bad edits making their way through the approval process. Google subsequently shut down Map Maker, the tool the company used to crowdsource the improvement of its mapping products (and the same one through which these defacement edits were submitted), on May 12th to “take a pause” until “we have our moderation system back in action.” It looks like that pause on submissions will soon come to an end.

“Map Maker will be reopened for editing in early August,” said Pavithra Kanakarajan, a product manager on the Google Map Maker team, in a post to the company’s product forums. “We’re looking for users to now have more influence over the outcome of edits in their specific countries.”

What’s important to note here is that the process of reviewing Map Maker edit submissions will be significantly different than before the shutdown: now instead of most submissions being reviewed by Google employees, the responsibility of reviewing and approving or denying the vast majority edits will be placed on the community at large.

This may sound like a crazy idea – handing over more control to outsiders, which includes those who defaced Google’s incredibly important mapping product in the first place. I initially thought the same thing, but Kanakarajan says that the company has come to the conclusion that most of the community is well-intentioned, reliable, and fast when it comes to acting on offending changes. And they won’t be implementing this new system haphazardly.

According to Kanakarajan, the Map Maker team will be selecting high-quality “mappers” – people who have submitted edits and engaged in the greater community – in each region on the planet to be named the “Regional Lead” for their area on Map Maker. Any edits made in their region will both be reviewed by Google’s automated moderation system as well as by these leads themselves. Google employees will “occasionally” moderate edits, but she doesn’t specify exactly when.

Starting in early August, Map Maker will re-open in phases, and qualified Regional Lead candidates will receive invites to apply for the role before the product is re-opened. New moderators will be added slowly over time to decrease the time it takes for edits to be reviewed, and in the meantime Kanakarajan asks everyone to have patience when it comes to review speed.

Google Map Maker editing back up and running.

Well not quite. Edits locally cant be published until we have a country lead.

Any volunteers? I'm not as heavily involved as some of you here.

And what is the criteria for selecting the lead though. The best person would be someone who did lots editing previously and who has a lot of time on their hands to review all these new edits.

Email google. They'll tell you the criteria.

IF anyone else willing... by all means... jump een but the faster one is submitted and selected the faster we can move ahead.

Bumping this... I don't think a team lead was sorted as yet for Google maps... I guess we all will be missing out on these perks:

yes seeing traffic information on Google maps for T&T

remember Google bought Waze for US$1.3 Billion a couple years ago. it's only a matter of time that we start seeing data from the two being merged.
