There are some high speed sweeping corners you absolutely never make a move on. It's part of a gentleman's agreement. If a move is to be done, there has to be a huge disparity in the pace of the cars.
130R, Spoon, Esses in Suzuka
Copse, Maggots, Becketts in Silverstone
Eau Rouge and Pouhon in Spa
Turn 8 in Istanbul
Parabolica in Monza
Senna S in Interlagos
and many others.
Race craft becomes nonexistent at 300km/hr. Nobody is capable of checking mirrors/leaving a car's width etc.

10s is just a slap on the wrist.
Max is going to do the same thing to Lewis later in the season.
2 penalty points.Slartibartfast wrote:He had Leclerc scared, that's for sure. I think the reason they didn't want to punish Hamilton too harshly is that they don't want to discourage hard racing too much. But a 10 second penalty was definitely not harsh enough, especially given the ramifications that the race had on the championship. Did he even get any points on his license like Norris or Checo did in the Austrian grand prix?

you can't be serious
Max would ahve done the exact same thing, and he would have known lewlewbelle would too....hence they both gambled, max lost
penalty unjustified

Hamilton many times as well up to now. Only this time Hamilton decided enough was enough and didn't flinch when Max went for his usual Sennaesque "Crash or move out of my way" tactic.
If this incident didn't play out like it did, you might have well put Max's name on the World Championship trophy from now.
Hamilton didn't back away as he has done time after time and Max got caught out and ended up with a DNF. The icing on the cake was that Hamilton got a 10 second penalty and still won the race.
From now Max will know that he can try that move on other drivers if he wants, but if he tries it on Lewis, he runs the risk of being "Max Vertappened" right back and get another DNF for his trouble.
That can only be good for Lewis Hamilton's championship game.
