I will like to hear Max's take on this.

Forget the JA Honer and Dr Marco with their views.

I usually support Lewis, but a 30 second penalty post race would have been more fair.

10s is just a slap on the wrist.

Max is going to do the same thing to Lewis later in the season.

There are some high speed sweeping corners you absolutely never make a move on. It's part of a gentleman's agreement. If a move is to be done, there has to be a huge disparity in the pace of the cars.

130R, Spoon, Esses in Suzuka
Copse, Maggots, Becketts in Silverstone
Eau Rouge and Pouhon in Spa
Turn 8 in Istanbul
Parabolica in Monza
Senna S in Interlagos
and many others.

Race craft becomes nonexistent at 300km/hr. Nobody is capable of checking mirrors/leaving a car's width etc.

I hear that... But somehow Albon made the move stick around the outside on Kimi at the exact same corner

Max would ahve done the exact same thing, and he would have known lewlewbelle would too....hence they both gambled, max lost
penalty unjustified

That last line. You can be absolutely sure next time Max goes down the inside of LH, his trajectory is going to put lewis straight off the track or cause a collision.

He had Leclerc scared, that's for sure. I think the reason they didn't want to punish Hamilton too harshly is that they don't want to discourage hard racing too much. But a 10 second penalty was definitely not harsh enough, especially given the ramifications that the race had on the championship. Did he even get any points on his license like Norris or Checo did in the Austrian grand prix?

2 penalty points.

Maybe if they made him do a 10s drive through it would have been fair.

Basically comes out to a 30s penalty.

With all the cameras and such nowadays, these incidents have endless reviews and post mortems.

I'm a Hamilton fan, but realize this one was on him.

The stabilized camera shows best how Hamilton is at fault here by driving into Max and the punishment was too soft. Basically you have the entire race to make up the 10s time penalty which is doable in the Merc.

Max does this kind of thing all the time. Pretty much every time he is in a leading position he goes for the other drivers in his way and they always flinch. Hamilton many times as well up to now. Only this time Hamilton decided enough was enough and didn't flinch when Max went for his usual Sennaesque "Crash or move out of my way" tactic.

If this incident didn't play out like it did, you might have well put Max's name on the World Championship trophy from now.

Hamilton didn't back away as he has done time after time and Max got caught out and ended up with a DNF. The icing on the cake was that Hamilton got a 10 second penalty and still won the race.

From now Max will know that he can try that move on other drivers if he wants, but if he tries it on Lewis, he runs the risk of being "Max Vertappened" right back and get another DNF for his trouble.

That can only be good for Lewis Hamilton's championship game.

Getting a 10s penalty in lap 5 is much easier to handle than one in lap 50.

I'm not a big Max fan by any means, but you're talking nonsense. Max hasn't 'done this kinda thing' in quite awhile - he actually has 0 penalty points. Give jack his jacket.

Also, evidence since GB has shown LH went into the corner significantly faster than any other point in the race, including while passing LeC on better tyres and lower fuel load. It's likely he would have ran wide if Max wasn't present. Rumours are (from brindle) RBR has hired a lawyer to see if a case can be made after the race weekend is over.

Especially for Hamilton in a merc with Verstappen out of the race. He has completed most races this season with far more than 10s between him and the person in third (i.e. everybody that is not Verstappen). Not to mention the safety car allowed him a pit stop to fix any damage so the accident itself was of zero consequence to him.

A 10 second penalty in these circumstances is nothing more than a slap on the wrist. The FIA said they consider only the incident and not the consequences which I think is a good approach to promote fairness but I don't know.... just doesn't seem right...

Even after seeing this it's still a racing incident?

It should have been a 10s stop and go.

That Hamilton/Alonso fight was one for the ages and seems like what gave Ocon the chance to win. Great team effort.

They need to go back to the 25% laps rule without safety car to be considered a race.
