WTK: How to trace an email...

A relative of mine got a very nasty email, have to be someone who knows him very good, their username was a false name.
how do someone trace this.

No you idiot.....tracing an email is VERY complicated and if done incorrectly can cause serious implications...

OP to trace an email you need a computer with a multifunction printer, tracing paper and an HB#4 or #5 pencil, and a high quality eraser, clear tape and razor blade -or scissors

step 1. print email using computer and multifunction printer.
step 2 place a sheet of tracing paper over email
step 3 using clear tape secure the tracing paper to the printed email.
step 4 using desired pencil trace over the email. pay attention to the special characters and symbols. erase and retrace any characters if necessary.
step 5 once complete use the razor blade ( or scissors) to separate the tracing paper from the printed email.


congratulations...you have just traced an email....you can now take the traced email to the nearest TTPS for further investigation....

OP, what email service are u using? Yahoo? Hotmail? Corporate? Gmail?


there are various ways to get the IP of the sender but its easier to have the email service provider do it for u....report the email and request information on the sender...gmail would give u a response in less than 24 hours....others like hotmail etc....u gonna have to wait 1 - 14 days if u lucky.

even if u get some info on the sender....dont get ur hopes up on getting justice....dont be surprised if the issue dies a few days after making a report.

Dont believe him..you either have to tie a string to the email and follow it or include a pack of breadcrumbs with the message hoping it was addressed to Hansel or Grettle..thats the only way it works

OP you would have to get the ISP involved, getting the IP would be a start but from there the ISP would have to continue.... antics for a lil email tho.
