Rosetta Stone

Postby brainchild » March 1st, 2013, 9:52 pm

I'm looking to learn spanish on an advanced level (good enough to live and communicate in a latin american country), wondering if i should go the Rosetta Stone route or what. Has anyone tried it? Is it any good?

Agreed. Great tool. Will get you up and running for sure and also don't worry, being immersed in the country you'd be amazed how quickly you'll pick up the language.

I really need to get back into it again. I was going good in Hindi and Arabic.

It works if you do your part too. Some secondary schools use it.

You could also try livemocha first if you don't have the $ for Rosetta Stone.

I have done Spanish from form 1 to doing it as my undergrad minor. Once you understand the advanced fundamentals (6th form), three months immersed in a Spanish speaking country (no English speakers around you) you will be fluent.

You can get the older software and language packs (version 3+) off torrents easy, but the most recent software and advanced languages packs (version 4) is much harder.

The Arabic is really good. I was using a Version 3 language pack from long time but still very very good.

I tried it. Found it was a waste of time. Speaking to natives is much better, and faster as long as you learn the fundamentals in school. OR do what my former boss from Venezuela suggested and find a horizontal dictionary.

Using it with French and Spanish, levels 1 to 5, Version 3 at the moment.... Not a foreign language person but I'm learning anyways.

You ever try to keep a spanish dictionary up for 3 months ? It's hella expensive... plus it is constantly giving you feedback when you just want to have a drink.

Buyig the boxed set is worth it as you get the headset that helps you with your pronounciation. Bought the full spanish course a few years ago.

You should try Duo Lingo, its free!
I found it very helpful.
Only five languages available though.
