5 MILES you say there?
The Route 2 Maxi Taxi Association has distanced itself from a T&T Mirror article which suggested that maxi fares have been reduced.
The President of the Route 2 Maxi Taxi Association, Mr. Linus Phillip, said comments attributed to Arima Maxi Taxi Association President, Mr. Lincoln Cumberbatch, in the article do not reflect the stance of his Association.
The article suggested that maxi taxi fare had been reduced from $6 to $5 but Mr. Phillip explained that only the Route 2 Maxi Taxi Association has the authority to adjust the fare structure.
The fare structure is reviewed every three years by his Association and Mr. Phillip admitted that several drivers were duped by the article and had started using the reduced fare. He apologised for the misinformation fed to the public.
Mr. Phillip labeled the Arima Association a "rogue group" motivated by money and disinterested in serving the traveling public's interest.
He questioned the motives of the Arima Maxi Taxi Association, claiming the suggestion that the planned $5 fare to go anywhere on the bus route would aid 'short run' maxi drivers rather than discourage them.
He said as it stands, the proposed fare would take money away from drivers who ply the full route (Arima, La Horquetta to Port of Spain etc) and members of the public traveling "short" on the bus route would pay more.
The current short drop fare is $3 while other distances short of the "full trip" have varying fares of $4 to $5
Concerning the short drop issue, Mr. Phillip called on the Ministry of Works to intervene.
He also called on the Ministry of Transport to review the current structure of City Gate, which he called "a dump."
