Times Square Cookie Monster a real grouch to Bollywood star and child
A costumed Osvaldo Quiroz-Lopez, 33, posed for a photo with 2-year-old Samay Katkar of Stamford, Conn. Sunday before going ballistic demanding cash. The boy's mother Parmita Kurada is known in Bollywood as Parmita Katkar, former Miss India Asia Pacific.

Miss India Asia Pacific 2003 Parmita Katkar, now Parmita Kurada, accused Cookie Monster impersonator Osvaldo Quiroz-Lopez of assaulting her son after she failed to pay the impersonator money in Times Square.
This Cookie Monster should wash his crummy mouth out with soap.
The costumed character who allegedly pushed a 2-year-old child in Times Square called the kid’s Bollywood star mother a name unfit for “Sesame Street,” according to prosecutors.
“You are a beyotch, your son is a bastard and your stuff is trash,” performer Osvaldo Quiroz-Lopez, 33, said, according to court papers.
Osvaldo Quiroz-Lopez, 33, the crazed Cookie Monster, appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday to be arraigned on charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Parmita Kurada — who is an accomplished Bollywood actress and model known by her maiden name, Parmita Katkar — said the cartoonish confrontation had upended her tot’s perception of a childhood hero.
“All day he kept saying ‘I don’t like Cookie Monster! I don’t like Cookie Monster!’ ” she said.
Osvaldo Quiroz-Lopez dressed as the cookie monster (r.) is accused of becoming abusive and pushing two-year-old Samay (pictured) on Sunday, April 7, 2013.
The debacle began at 2:25 p.m. Sunday — only minutes after Kurada, 34, had arrived with her husband and two sons on a family outing to buy a bicycle.
But before they could reach Toys R Us, her eldest, Samay, became enchanted by the costumed characters who fill Times Square posing for photos and seeking tips.
He took a picture with the swashbuckling feline from “Puss in Boots” — without incident. Then Cookie Monster closed in with Elmo as backup.
Parmita Kurada, right, says a costumed Cookie Monster in Times Square became verbally abusive and pushed her 2-year-old son, Samay, after she refused to pay the $2 photo op. Hur husband, Sagar, called the cops, who arrested the blue beast.
“The next thing I know, Cookie Monster had already picked up my son and was like, ‘Come on, take a picture!’ ” said Kurada, who once hosted an entertainment news show in India and was Miss India Asia Pacific in 2003.
The exchange went sour after Kurada asked her 35-year-old husband, Sagar, to withdraw money from a cash machine for a tip. He left only to return to find chaos.
Parmita Kurada said crazed costumed Cookie Monster called her "a b---h" and her son "a bastard," according to a police source.
“(The monster) was right next to me saying, ‘Come on, come on! Give me the money!’ ” recalled Kurada in her Stamford, Conn., home. “I was getting scared. I thought he was going to attack me or he was going to hit me.”
He ended up pushing the toddler, forcing him off balance, though he never hit the ground, cops said.
Quiroz-Lopez admitted he was feeling more like Oscar the Grouch over the lack of a tip.
“She should have money on her and she was wasting my time,” he allegedly told police.
He faces child endangerment charges, plus a count of aggressive begging. A Manhattan judge set the performer’s bail at $1,000 Monday.
The latest costumed calamity has revived concerns about the unregulated performers. On the weekend as many as 50 vie for tips.
“(Some) hold onto kids until they get their tip,” said Tim Tompkins, president of the Times Square Alliance. “I’ve seen some of them randomly hug an attractive woman who has no kids within 50 feet of her.”
Previous incidents have included a Super Mario who groped a woman, a Spider-Man who punched a mom, and an anti-Semitic Elmo.
But a friend said Quiroz-Lopez is as harmless as Big Bird.
“He didn’t do anything, the people are lying,” said the friend, who declined to give his name. He added the performer had worked Times Square for three years without trouble.
