St Joseph family critical after bandit attack

Story Updated: Oct 26, 2013BANDITS staged a bloody attack on a Maracas Valley, St Joseph family early yesterday morning, leaving a mother with a stab wound to her neck, a father with wounds to his chest and the father’s son with a severely damaged eye.Three of the four assailants, including one who was injured during the robbery, were arrested by St Joseph police and were being questioned up to last night.Police said the drama began around 4.10 a.m. when three of the bandits broke into the Leotaud Lane, Mountain View home of 47-year-old Wayne Panchat, his wife Allison Panchat, 40, and Lorenzo Panchat, 25, who is Wayne’s son from a previous relationship.Police said as soon as the bandits entered the house they began attacking the family. Neighbours who heard the commotion and screaming immediately telephoned the St Joseph police and officers who were already on patrol responded. When they arrived on the scene they found one of the bandits in the yard of the house attempting to flee. He was arrested.Another bandit, who police described as the getaway driver, was arrested behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla.Two of the other bandits managed to run off, but they left more than $100,000 in cash, electronics and jewelry behind. One of them was later arrested at hospital where he was attempting to get treatment for a stab wound.Police said when they walked into the house, they found Wayne Panchat on the floor bleeding profusely from a stab wound to the left side of his chest, while Panchat’s wife was found with a deep stab wound to her neck.Through her pain, she was able to tell the officers that her step-son was injured.Minutes later, the step-son was found on the first floor of the house in a pool of blood with a stab wound to one of his eyes and left leg.Three ambulances were summoned and the family was taken to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope.And as investigators accompanied the family to the hospital, they received a report from security guards there that one of the suspected bandits arrived at the hospital seeking treatment for a stab wound to his neck, which was inflicted by Allison Panchat.The suspect remained at hospital up to last night under police guard.Police said that all three victims were in stable but critical condition.Sgt Katwaroo of the St Joseph CID is continuing investigations. There are some inaccuracies above , No ambulance arrived. The neighbours carried them to the hospital. There were only 3 perpetrators. Police did not locate anybody was the neighbours, only the wife & husband were found at the house , the son was located 2 hours later, he ran & hid for his life.
We don't not believe this to be a robbery , no personal effects were taken , it was an attempt to kill the family. We are greatful they are alive & hope for a. Speedy recovery.
