Car tint Life expectancy?

Postby Anotrin » December 1st, 2013, 8:40 pm

I tinted close to 2 years now. I noticed the tint is starting to look crusty and dirty.Wiping/cleaning is impossible. I used some hand soap and a J cloth and nothing.the crustiness just moves and refuses to be wiped up. Does tint go bad that quickly or amm i just not cleaning it properly? any info would be appreciated thankz.

Op, you mind saying where you got that tint? Via PM, not here for thread to go poof.

I saw that flaking happening with one of our vehicles but it came from the firm tinted so no info on brand etc from them. Wanted to know what brand it is so I wont ever buy it.

WRT lifespan, I tinted my car about 3 years proper and the tint is still black, no flakes or fading. Tinted my next ride and next to each other they both look the same.
I think both rolls were bought from carsmart on Cipero st.

All three vehicles dont park in the sun so its not that what caused the flaking in the one it did.

A good tint last as long as it doesn't get scratch up. Tint don't fade anymore

When you say expensive what kinda prices so? I dont mind paying for a quality product if at the end of the day it may saves me the hassle of re tinting-a/c for a week :agrue: lol.

Right hand side where the bottom half of the rear door in the car showing, you can see the flaking.

What it was replaced with:

Unless the technology is much better than years ago... a good, quality, properly applied tint should last more than 3-4 years. Better tints will start to fade or change colour first... then it may get cloudy and 'dirty' looking.

I've had tint that lasted for more than 5 yrs... but it would also depend on where you park and how many hours of sun the car gets per day. UV light isn't easy... everything burns.

That could be caused by using something bad to clean it before. High alcohol and solvents can cause tints to deteriorate fast. The crustiness is the tint itself. It wont come off unless you remove the tint.
