McALESTER, Okla. (AP) — A botched execution that used a new drug combination left an Oklahoma inmate writhing and clenching his teeth on the gurney Tuesday, leading prison officials to halt the proceedings before the inmate's eventual death from a heart attack.

Supposed to be painless

Painless is such a vague term wrt death row inmates. What kinna mental anguish and pain they must be going through especially in the week leading up to the event. Meem mind the physical pain these fawkers go through though.

With that said there was an article this week (BBC I think) where it calculates that an executed prisoner costs more than one sentenced to life imprisonment. The appeals process costs so much it just cheaper to throw them in jail forever.
