Intrested in offshore work?

Postby the_guy_you_need_to_know » July 26th, 2014, 12:39 pm

Good day fellow tuners,
Well guys i currently doing some research on Kenson School of Production and contemplating on doing the Offshore Production Operator Programme.
I’m not to concern about the age old saga of should i do City & Guilds vs UTT and who accredited and what not.
I currently in my last year of my B.A.Sc. in Utilities Engineering at UTT, possess a UTT Technicians Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, and a Journeyman Certificate in Industrial Maintenance from MIC.

I have worked in the industry as a mechanical maintenance tech for roughly 5 years but always wanted to work offshore for a BP OR a BG.do you guys think taking 9months to do the Offshore Production Operator Training At Kenson is going to be worth it, seeing that it is only offered fulltime.
dont know anyone personally who went there but there name always seem to ring out when it comes to offshore

i have read some stuff on tuner about Kenson but more towards the lower level courses they offer but nothing about the offshore thing

any advice guys????

Training at kensons is a waste of time.i know people working offshore an have no set of qualifications.if u want offshore work nowadays, u would have to have "links" aka know people that would put in a good word to their company to pull u in.

Does English B compensate for English A?

...seeing that they're both English

Check Nesc drilling academy in St Madeline. It's a full time course . Only school of its kind in the region. Only 3 schools like it in the world so that alone speaks for itself. It is internationally recognized and certified by IADC and others. It involves more upstream oil and gas courses like drilling or rig tech. Check Nesc website for contact.

I know the part time course hasn't started but the full time course is 2years. If you have industry experience you may be able to get in even though it has started already.

All those qualifications, Atlantic was looking for Operator Technicians on Caribbean Jobs.
I don't subscribe to the link view much, apply to all who you want to work for and pray.

also why do you want to become a Offshore Production Operator ? when you in your last year in a engineering degree ?

makes no sence , a operator is lower down the chain than a engineer you need to reconsider your career goals op

well first off, my gpa is good, got no probs with that, and if you look at the time of year, we actually gonna finish up our programme as of next week with a presentation of final projects

2nd of all its a lot harder to get inside these companies as an engineer. This is so for the main reason that 70 to 80 % of all staff hired by these companies are either operations or maintenance staff. don’t get me wrong if any engineering post show up i will always jump at them no doubt, but the fact still remains that all of these plants in point Lisas and point fortin and platforms in the west and east coast of trinidad are ran by technicians and operators

its just a fact
