If you downloaded a copy you can use an app called disk maker x which would allow you to transfer the downloaded image to either usb or sd card.. After which you shut down, swap out parts and connect usb/sd card and turn on system and hold down option key and you should see bootable device..
When you get into the OS X utilities, select disk utility and click continue.. Select drive on left side and click partition on right.. Select 1 partition and make sure format is Mac OS extended.. Besides that click on options and confirm that GUID partition table is selected.. Ok, apply and partition.. Then close disk utility.. You can then click on install OS X, accept license, point to hdd and install..
Alternatively you can boot system to internet recovery (without creating bootable usb/sd card).. Connect internet enabled network cable to system and turn on and press and hold cmd-r will take much longer as it downloads the image all over again but it takes you to the reload as well..
Hope this helps..
