There is talk about the status of the USDT stablecoin. Some say that is the next domino to fall while others say is FUD. If you have assets stored in USDT, convert to another stablecoin such as BUSD or DAI.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Just be careful when you are using Wise. Many trinis are abusing it and the banks are clamping down by threatening non-renewal of CC upon expiry or outright closure of your card unannounced.

wow thanks for this!!!! Would they send you a notice of the "misuse" of it?

this is the irony, bitcoin(using blockchain technology) was supposed to be used a bonafide funds transfer mechanism to do away with traditional methods

now secondary "stablecoins" are being used for this whilst bitcoin is used purely for speculative investing

No problem 8-)

It's up to the discretion of your bank to call and query. If it's minor purchases, that should be fine. But if they see cash amounts above your documented income level being deposited to your CC, you're on thin ice.

I think coinbase will do it, they have T&T on their list, signed up and they already quoting my 0.00 balance in TTD.. ,..

But they only chnge bitcoin ,but that's the other payment option on the investment platform so it's all good...did a small transfer as a trial run, waiting for it to show up and see how the transfer goes..when I confirm it came I will share the investment opportunity with anyone interested, 30% per month..

To me it's easy to manage the risk by simply using the profit derived for further investment and cash in weekly..

Yeah the signs are there. Suggestions that we might be in a bull trap atm.

Be careful of Tether (USDT) stablecoin as that might be the next shoe to drop.

Stablecoin USDC breaks dollar peg after revealing $3.3 billion Silicon Valley Bank exposure

Stablecoin USD Coin (USDC) lost its dollar peg and slumped to an all-time low on Saturday after Circle, the U.S. firm behind the coin, revealed that some of the reserves backing it were held at Silicon Valley Bank.

Circle has $3.3 billion of its $40 billion of USDC reserves at collapsed lender Silicon Valley Bank, the company said in a tweet on Friday.

The coin broke its 1:1 dollar peg and fell as low as $0.88 shortly after 0800 GMT on Saturday according to market tracker CoinGecko. It recovered slightly to trade around $0.90 by 1120 GMT.

Silicon Valley Bank collapsed on Friday in the largest U.S. bank failure since the 2008 financial crisis, roiling global markets and stranding billions of dollars belonging to companies and investors.

Circle said in a tweet on Friday that it and USDC "continue to operate normally" while the firm waits for clarity on what will happen to Silicon Valley Bank depositors.

Circle did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the dollar peg, sent outside of U.S. working hours.

Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies designed to maintain a constant exchange rate with "fiat" currencies - those backed by a central government rather than a physical commodity such as gold - for example through a 1:1 U.S. dollar peg.

Used in cryptocurrency trading, they have surged in value in recent years. USDC is the second-biggest stablecoin with a market cap of $37 billion. The largest, Tether, has a market cap of $72 billion, according to CoinGecko.

USDC's price usually holds close to $1, making Saturday's drop unprecedented. According to CoinGecko data, its previous all-time low was around $0.97 in 2018, though in 2022 it fell just below $0.99 when cryptocurrency markets were roiled by the collapse of crypto hedge fund Three Arrows Capital.

Traders have been on guard this week for signs of contagion in the financial sector and beyond from troubles for Silicon Valley Bank and crypto-focused Silvergate (SI.N), which this week disclosed plans to wind down operations and voluntarily liquidate.

Boston-based Circle said last week it had moved a "small percentage" of USDC reserve deposits held at Silvergate to its other banking partners.

The chief executive of cryptocurrency exchange Binance said in a tweet on Friday it had no exposure to Silicon Valley Bank, as did Tether Chief Executive Paolo Ardoino.

Stablecoin issuer Paxos and crypto exchange Gemini also tweeted that they do not have relationships with the bank.

Major crypto coins stabilise after U.S. intervenes on SVB collapse

LONDON, March 13 (Reuters) - Major cryptocurrencies stabilised on Monday after U.S. authorities announced plans to limit the fallout from the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and the issuer of the USD Coin stablecoin said it remained redeemable with the dollar.

U.S. authorities launched emergency measures on Sunday to shore up confidence in the banking system after the failure of SVB (SIVB.O) threatened to trigger a broader financial, and said SVB customers would have access to their deposits from Monday.

USD Coin, also known as USDC , recovered to $0.998, up from a record low of $0.87 hit on Saturday, far below its intended peg of 1:1 against the dollar. The fall was sparked by concerns on the exposure of Circle — the U.S. firm that issues USDC — to SVB.

Top cryptocurrency bitcoin , meanwhile, gained 6% to $23,350, a recovery of over 13% from its lows hit a day earlier.

Jeremy Allaire, CEO of USDC issuer Circle, said in a tweet on Sunday that the company's $3.3 billion USDC reserves deposit - about 8% of its total - held at SVB would be fully available when U.S. banks open on Monday.

The only option I know of then is to buy USDT locally from the cambio vene traders. They will transfer to your binance account then you buy your crypto.

Ypou have IBKR or a stock trading account?

eToro had that including being able to trade crypto like forex where you are not buying the actual crypto but just trading.
However they stopped taking trades from T&T at the end of 2020

BTC miners like Riot, Hut and Mara (those are the ticker symbols)

are listed on the stock exchange and they are a good leverage play on BTC.
They do fall like a rock when btc is down tho so careful.

Scotia doesn't support buying from exchanges and if you use a 3rd party service like Airtm or Wise to buy P2P on Kucoin or such there are huge fees to pay in between and you can lose 25-30% before you even get your USDT, but thays one way.

This is another way that works for me locally.

Use CrytoTab to get BTC on your pc or phone by using the browser, buy a boost or few and then wtihdraw to an exchange and sell for alts/stables if thats your plan.
