sounding like pressure switch malfunction,
buy the square D brand

Before this was it functioning normally ?
what was/is the cutoff pressure switch psi which your pump would stop at ?
assuming you have a pressure gauge on the pump.

If the cutoff pressure is too high it will over fill the pressure tank and bust the rubber in it.

It was functioning normally, one time, the pump refused to come on one night and start back the next morning as normal :|

It would stop at 50 psi..

So change the switch and the tank again then?

^^^^^ yes you should. I’ve had issues with tanks. Honestly I’m not sure if it’s the quality of water that deteriorates the rubber. I have to replace mines, this one lasted a couple years. I have a 1/2hp Goulds pump that my grandfather purchased in 97. The start of 2017 I refurbished it at a cost of $1600. Goulds is an amazing pump.

buy a good quality brand pressure tank, like wellxtrol

Goulds motors are much beefier than the competition, if you just look at the motor windings it is chalk and cheese.

If the pump will not function while the pressure terminals are touching (as shown in photo) the pump or wiring is malfunctioning.

Verify that that pump works by checking the electrical supply wires with a test light. Then wire the pump directly to the supply to see if it works.

You can try to clean the contacts with an electronics cleaner but the contacts look clean.

The tank will work whether the diaphragm is intact or not, so long as it is pressurized.

Recharge the tank:
Turn off the pump
Turn off the street supply
Open a nearby valve until water flow begins to slow.
Recharge the tank by adding 50 psi to 60 psi in the tank.

Bladders and diaphrams provide longer periods between tank recharges. Many water pressure tanks are designed to have neither.

A 60 psi precharge should allow about 120 psi working pressure so street pressure should not be an issue.

You only need a check valve for the pump inlet and a check valve for the WASA supply line. Additional check valves don't do harm but they do lower system pressure.

The pressure tank we have at home is a big fiberglass one and the rubber seem to be lasting real long, must be over 15yrs
but similar sized metal one at another location didnt last 5 years.

I replaced it with the smallest sized one available and put the cycle stop valve which works like a mechanical smarthead
cheaper in the long run and the cycle stop valve throttles the pump output to 50psi and only when water demand ceases does it slowly run up to the 60psi and pressure switch cuts off, so less hard jamming on the pressure tank.

Boy honestly since I know myself pops and them does say " always go peakes and buy the goulds"

We never had pump problems in the 20 years we have it home here, one pressure tank went last 5 years or sum so far and that was a couple hundred.
Compare that to my other family with other brands, is like a yearly thing to have pump issues.

I heard people saying its better to use a bigger tank than what was originally sent with the pump...any truth to this?

Yes, the tank acts as a buffer for the demands
So pump will cycle on and off less

Got a Goulds pump from Peakes in 2011, never had any issues till this year. it just needed to clean the contacts on the switch. Though it gives an odd high pitch sound when cycling on and off. also sounding like a propeller/fan blade touching something. Never had it services because i don't know who to get to check it from south area.

Motor Rewinders LTD, south trunk road. Been using them for years for countless motors and pumps

prob the bearings, the rewinder place should be able to take it apart and replace the bearings.
if they could clean the inside would be good too, usually there is a lot of rust scale built up inside.

I remember being at a relative's one time, couldnt help but listen to his goulds cycling on and off...coming to the end, it made a kinda pop/whistle song...when he eventually did change his tank, it stopped...anyone ever experienced that?

Hi guys, having problems with my Goulds pump. Leaking water it may be the seal but looks like it needs some servicing as well. Can anyone recommend someone to fix? Thanks

If you are handy it not too hard
Change the shaft seal and bearings

Bumping this thread for some help. My pump is only cutting off and not coming back on. It has a smart head and the status button is blinking instead of remaking on. If I manually hold down the power button, it comes on and builds pressure. Water will flow but once i turn off the tap and it cuts off, if I turn back on the tap, the pump will not come back on. See pics for clarity. Really trying to sort this out urgently. Only started happening yesterday.

unscrew that smarthead and throw it in the sea

also go to a rotoplastics store and hang around a while
you will surely see a few ppl coming to buy one.....

a small pressure tank and pressure switch will be cheaper to buy too

why does a device need an “easy press reset”?
does it need to manually reset often?

if you had to stop and restart your car whilst driving would that be ok?

No it doesn’t need to reset at all usually. So as this started happening I know that something is very wrong
