URGENT HELP NEEDED IDENTIFYING SR20 Motor

Postby §ephiroth » October 9th, 2015, 3:58 pm

Good day to all

I am in a situation here where I need to identify whether my SR20 engine is a DET or a DE that the previous owner turbocharged.

To make a long story short the owner and the mechanic that installed the engine told me that it is an Avenir SR20 Turbo engine I also checked it out and I believe it to be so. I also checked with some friends to hear their opinions on it when I got the vehicle and they all seem to believe it is an AVENIR engine and not a silvertop that they turbocharged

My issue currently is the mechanic that is doing a major job on the engine is claiming that it is an SR20 DE engine that they turbocharged and not an SR20DET/Avenir engine.

I have contacted Massy to see if they would be able to cross reference the engine number to see if it's DE or DET they said they don't work with engine numbers, they only use Chassis.

Any advice on how I can get it confirmed that it is a DET or a DE?

Det has oil squirters I believe. There should be a notch on the piston. I ain't no specialist so wait confirmation from the Sr gods.

Noob here, should a DET not have come with a DET brainbox as well as extra oil connections for the turbo?

you bought the engine alone or engine in a car?, if it is in a car then pull the ecu and check the model number.

http://www.se-r.net/car_info/de_det_differences.html

Here are the differences between the DET and the DE:

The DET has oil squirter piston coolers
The DET has a bigger oil pump.
The DET has a different front pulley.
The DET has lower compression pistons (8.3:1 vs 9.5:1).
The DET has bigger injectors.
The DET has direct ignition.
The DET has a variable intake cam, runs retarded at idle, advanced mid range and retarded top end.
The DET has mechanical shim in bucket type lifters with a slightly bigger in duration exhaust cam.

The GTi-R DET has individual Throttle body injection.
The GTi-R DET has stronger main cap bolts.
The GTi-R DET has beefier rods.

Just about all the parts between a DET and a DE interchange.

The pulley may not be a sure indicator but the Na pulleys with the exception of the 20VE do not have solid pulleys. DET pulleys are solid.

If in doubt check Anil

You're right, But the connections can also be made.

I was wondering if there was a database anywhere so that someone might be able to use the engine number

It's in the car. The ECU seems to be a Avenir ECU even though some of the numbers are scratched off. It has 6Q large on it I believe
