that's a 7 year difference with a lot more to consider locally and internationally.
Fuel was cheaper for Americans when Reagan was in power ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not condoning it - we'd be better off if we had a refinery
but fuel was bound to be lower 7 years ago, pandemic in between, anyway

Those are not the current fuel prices.

It is.
The last bar in each graph is the unsubsidized price.

Forgive I, want to blame reading the chart from my phone but it's really my two cxc subjects rearing it's head

GORT TT harping over the cost of the subsidy but what are the incentives or alternatives in place ?

Astronomical taxes on a new vehicle, poor public transport, no end to traffic jams, poorly maintained highway and road networks. Better is needed from this or any Government

Premium is higher than the unsubsidized amount.
Premium users are paying toward the coffers

Maybe just maybe fuel prices shouldn't have been so static for so long and it wouldn't hurt as much when the big changes are made like now. Behaviours would have been conditioned in that time as well.
IIRC regular unleaded remained below $3/l since its introduction to 2016.

When can we (consumers) look forward to dealer controlled pricing?

Gas prices in Trinidad & Tobago

Electric vehicles would get you away from this shackle to oil.
Install solar/wind/water power at home with energy storage. Insulate your family from T&TEC oops moments and charge your ride at the convenience of your home.
Feed-in Tariff (FIT) if it ever comes to pass may earn you some credits.

All signs point to reducing your dependence on government

Hmm, sounded like prepper

Edit: Keep a simple POS ICE as an In Case of Emergency ride

Maybe we should be like Singapore and jack up the car prices so that traffic would be less. The roads aint growing.

it’s a lottery system for spots only given up by cars written off or delicensed

won’t work here as we don’t have enough alternative transport and the system will be corrupted

Singapore has a comprehensive MRT system covering the major urban areas of the island. Where there is none a LRT provides links to the MRT system.

If TTO had 10 MM residents, it would have a similar population density and may be able to support an extensive mass transit system.

^ But I do believe something should be done about the volume of cars. Maybe a system where to put a new car on the road you have to take one off. This would offer you a MVT/Customs Duty waiver or decrease. If you don't then pay taxes as normal.

It would also stimulate the used car market as ppl buy old cars to deregister and scrap.

Something could be done, of course. TTO has a cultural issue with respect to personal transportation tied to 50 years of highly subsidized fuel costs and a lack of minimal urban planning.
