i had a similar problem which turned out to be the powersupply.

Go to any pc store and have them try with a new powersupply that can take the load

1. switch off your power supply
2. pull the leads from the power switch to your motherboard
3. switch on your power supply
4. take a flat tip screwdriver and briefly touch both pins on the motherboard that you pulled the power switch cable from
5. if it doesnt come on then its your power supply
6. if it comes on when you touch both pins then its your power switch.
7. if it is your power switch, an easy fix is to use the reset switch as a power switch so just swap the reset cable to the power switch pins
