Any CCIE / RnS / Security employed locally?

Postby .:PROZAC:.. » May 1st, 2017, 7:20 am

Just curious what the local job market is like for people with solid knowledge- troubleshooting ,design and implementation.
Can you share your experience please and keep it Cisco centric at that level.

Do you think there is a need for remote work like this ? Who is the local Cisco partner if any?

Not much demand for CCIE R&S locally since most enterprise networks are really not that complex and can be easily handled by CCNP/CCNA persons. Digicel is the biggest Cisco partner in the Caribbean and have CCIEs on staff.

When it comes to CCIE i think only RNS/Collaboration/Service provider is useful in Trinidad.

As for Digicel/Massy the CCIE service provider is the best hands down, stuff like route reflectors, mpls layer 3 vpns, L2VPN`s (VPLS/EoMPLS) BGP in-depth, all of these are needed to work on Digicel GPON/Subsea international network.

My advice if you want to do CCIE the service provider track is the best as only the local ISP`s would look to hire a CCIE really.

There is also a VAR called UNDSL, they may need a CCIE in collaboration and RNS as they offer mainly Cisco solutions. Fujitzu is also good from what I hear.

no, it's pretty operational, yes you can move into admin if you like.

I'mm dual rns/ sec @ a cisco partner but was just looking at options. Just needed a break from the race and considered working home (tnt) for a year, while my wife is pregnant.
SP isn't my area or interest tbh. BGP/mpls vpn are things I touch daily but a focus on security. thanks for the info.

But CCIE is for seasoned network pros. Or done for a high fee. I can't see any helpdesk tech or network tech needing a CCIE.

there is no true work for ccie in tnt
big deals here are on a tender basis and the dealers work to suit, bring in consultants etc
they are not going to pay a big salary tech in house on an ongoing basis

well obviously not, you would've worked up from there.

Interesting. The company I work for presents a Cisco TAC like model but with additional services.
for on going support , troubleshoot , MAC etc,. is that being sold as a service locally ? even it is being done remotely?

If there are any Cisco specific questions or requests in my area please feel free to ask here. I'll do my best. 7/10 - someone has seen it before. Maybe we can have a thread dedicated to that or is there a local networkers forum?

Currently I'm focusing on firepower/firesight and umbrella. My ISE skills need developing. Legacy security tech, ASA/-X ACS etc are day to day.

Nice, any future plans? could you share your insight on how the exam was

Also what do you think about SDN and NFV. I had several employers tell me that the CLI is gonna be replaced with stuff like Cisco APIC-EM, ansible and python.

Lastly what are your thoughts on cloud I know TSTT has the cloud market and has a huge VMware partnership, do you see your self doing cloud stuff in the future like IAAS, security as a service, disaster recovery as a service etc?

Currently I`m studying VMware NSX/Azure as my focus has moved to a more cloud/MSP environment.

cross posting this from a conversation this week internally with some colleagues. I'm not being exposed to SDN in my current role. There is so much push for security it will keep me busy. If I want exposure it will rest squarely on my shoulders.

Cisco released a controller and approved topology for DC, Campus and WAN.

The topologies are:

ACI –DC Fabric
SDA – Campus Fabric
IWAN – WAN Fabric

The SDA Campus Fabric will be based on IS-IS as routing protocol and LISP as a control plane. All of this will eliminate STP/RSTP and the Access switches will become L3 to the Distribution or Collapse Core switches.

Do you see the need for a CCIE with all SDN etc being pushed?

nope, if anything it will be a money grab solely by cisco for the cert.
The fundamental technologies are needed to full use and troubleshoot SDN.
