Minister of Works Senator Rohan Sinanan Rohan Sinanan Signs order for 9 Speed guns Printable Version

17 Nov 2017

On Friday 17th November 2017, Senator the Honourable Rohan Sinanan, Minister of Works and Transport, signed an order for the use of nine (9) additional LIDAR Speed Guns, by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. This new addition increases the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s capacity of LIDAR Speed Guns to fifteen (15), which would be placed into immediate use in Trinidad and Tobago.

In the upcoming year, the general public will be apprised of the implementation of several key road safety initiatives all geared towards supporting the Ministry’s continued effort to ensure compliance with the current speed limit and traffic laws in accordance with the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act Chapter 48:50.

Now i don't have to watch d speedometer and try to balance staying in overdrive without breaking the speed limit. Wont neeed to go at 100 but cruise at 85-88

Increased speed limit, same crappy road conditions, same crappy poor driving attitudes.

Drivers need to use their indicators moreso now with the increased speeds.

Anyway, increased speeds mean increased tax revenue from fuel, and from what I saw yesterday, more drivers are breaking the new speed limit than when it was at 80km/h, and that means more revenue for the TTPS from tickets for exceeding the speed limit.

PNM laughing all the way to the Central Bank and the politicians laughing all the way to their personal banks.

I read somewhere that 95% of the tickets that have been given out were for speeds between 80-100 kph so i think there'll be a decrease on ticket revenue

Have you ever heard the saying "Give a Trini an inch and he'll take a mile"?

Same thing here. Speed limit was increased to 100km/h, and now people who were going between 80 and 100km/h are now going between 100 and 120km/h.

When last I spoke with someone from the Traffic Management Branch, the speed camera at El Socorro is being used to develop a speed profile for drivers in Trinidad and it was set, at that time, to take photos of cars going 130km/h and above. He said that a fair number of drivers go past that point at those speeds.

I agree...i think they will be on those main roads where the limit is 50 km...also i would be comfortable with 100 kmh on tthe highway...thats crusing speed....less engine noise etc....think drivers woukd obey this...excepting some tiida and voxy men

I think the traffic police realise this, so they're now more active on main roads. They were by reform Presbyterian school the other day, which is a 30km/h school zone limit. Got a few people.

Wouldn't it be easier to spot them on the main road? They can't stop more than 2 cars without causing traffic.
