Always thought that area to the right of the road heading to the lighthouse looked unnaturally flat

Top of the lighthouse in Toco and you can still see the outline of the runway.

Nice thread! That looks like the same runway of the original airport when we used to have to walk on the tarmac and family would wave from the waving gallery..... BWIA had tri-star airplanes and the airplanes would go to one end of the runway then make a u-turn.....

Nice pics. For anyone interested in WWII stuff in general there is a youtube channel called Time Ghost that is starting a week by week coverage of WWII this month and continuing for until 2024. It is supposed to be the largest youtube collaboration project to date.

There is also a 100th anniversary week by week coverage of WWI on a channel called The Great War that started in 2014.
