I does still remember the story from Primary School about how the Gods caused an Amerindian Village to be swallowed by the lake as punishment for its inhabitants shooting the (sacred) humming bird.

Is how the interviewer call out the condition of our roads but we exporting the resource to other countries...

Does anyone know how much TT makes from the export of pitch from this lake? Is Lake Asphalt still around?

Back in the 80s there was Lake Asphalt that would barrel the pitch and load onto ships at the La Brea port. I don’t know how much of that infrastructure still exists. My dad used to work for Texaco and I would go with him in Sunday’s for the drive down to the field office. I always remember seeing the overhead cable system taking the barrels of pitch from the Lake Asphalt compound down to the ships at the loading docks.
But judging from the old rusty building amd half dead tractor I won’t be surprised if the profits (how ever much) are going into somebody’s pockets. LOL.

the current gov met with Chinese investors wrt the pitch and the pitch lake sometime last year or year before if im not mistaken. Dont know what came out of that though.

Lake Asphalt still exports product. I know they were investigating the possibility of exporting it in a pellitized form. I am not sure if that has been implemented.

China plans on building the largest airport in the world. Our pitch lake is to be used in the building of it.
