OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Declaration of the Start of the 2022 Dry Season

Date: January 06, 2022 Issuance Time: 1.30 pm

Key Messages:

• The 2022 Dry Season has officially started.
• Compared to last year’s record-breaking wetter than usual dry-season, the 2022 Dry Season is likely to produce less rainfall than usual overall, with below-average totals most likely.

Likely Impacts:

• Less rainfall than usual will reduce surface water flows and rain-fed water availability;
• Increase in surface dryness as the season progresses will increase the potential for bush/grass/forest and landfill fires, which can deteriorate the air quality and stress persons with sensitive respiratory conditions.

Full Statement: https://www.metoffice.gov.tt/

Since starting of December I noticed better mileage on both diesel vehicles, on early morning and late night commute.. but during the day it goes back to regular. It’s just a 1L per 100km difference but turbo spool noises are yummy when it’s cold

I have more or less been home working for Jan and it rains everyday in Tunapuna, usually around lunch time and for around 5 mins Max. I'm guessing being so close to the Northern Range.

Yesterday evening into today!!
Since December I started running between 6pm - 7.30pm and on Monday evening it was so warm and muggy to the point of being uncomfortable and then yesterday evening into night was such a refreshing change with early January like coolness. Realized the temps lasted into morning when I woke up.

Also the sky was so clear yesterday evening I saw the ISS pass. Been a long time since I saw it but then again I don't actively look.

From this evening, #SaharanDust concentrations are forecast to increase across Trinidad, Tobago, and the Lesser Antilles, reducing visibility and air quality.

Sensitive groups are advised to take the necessary precautions ahead of this dust surge.

Adverse Weather Alert #1 - Yellow Level

Issuance time (local time) Fri, Feb 25, 2022 3:14 PM

Start date (local time) Fri, Feb 25, 2022 6:00 PM
End date (local time) Sat, Feb 26, 2022 5:00 PM

Description - There is a high (70%) chance of brisk isolated heavy showers/thunderstorms with accompanying gusty winds in excess of 55km/hr. These wind gusts will be brief but are capable of breaking tree branches, displacing unsecured roofs and loose outdoor objects, and can even topple over unhealthy trees. Street flooding is also likely in heavy downpours and seas can become additionally agitated in strong winds.

Instructions - Secure loose items outdoors and livestock. Small craft operators should be on the alert for above normal or choppy sea condition in strong winds. Monitor weather conditions and updates from official sources via www.metoffice.gov.tt and www.odpm.gov.tt.

Area description - Trinidad and Tobago

Updated Issuance time #1 (local time) Sat, Feb 26, 2022 10:28 AM

The potential for impactful rainfall and thunderstorm activity has significantly reduced. However, cloudy conditions and occasional showers or periods of light rain are expected to persist. Offshore interests are still advised to exercise caution in the event of moderate showers. In the event of the heavier shower, winds can become gusty.
