Airbag light flashing. WTD?

Postby Les Bain » February 13th, 2019, 7:34 am

Routine weekday morning. Dropped someone off at a transport point before heading to work. Shut off the car, walk them to transport, came back to the car, started and drove off. Airbag warning light starts flashing.

I read that this is a sensor issue and there's a risk of the airbag deploying. Where can I go to sort this out? 10 year old car but I've owned it for the last 8.

Go by a mechanic and run a diagnosis on the car.

Right, thanks. That's what I'm fearing.
I see there's an airbag fuse. Should I remove that until I'm able to get this sorted out? The weekend is the earliest I can do that.

Its not going to deploy. If its blinking, all the components are good. If its solid something needs changing. Just scan it ,see the fault code and clear it. Btw, is it a Y 12 or any of its cousins?

Could be the clockspring as previously mentioned.
Some cars have a known issue, and I had to deal with a similar situation on my van.

Get the code pulled, but if it happened sort of randomly, that is likely the culprit.

by chance you hearing a clicking noise when you turning your steering? usually the airbag light usually indicates a bad clock spiral spring. the horn and steering controls also stop working if its bad. if its not the spring you could just replace the entire air bag with a foreign used one

it wont deploy at all...hence the flashing.

most likely it's something minor....as mentioned above...get a diagnostic asap.

Op what car???. Cus if it's tiida/wingroad well we sure it's spiral spring.

Some BT 50 or ranger is the passenger seat sensor which could do a Easy bypass on the ignition screen until you fix

Navara same as tiida/wings

Thanks so much for the helpful responses.

I'm passing by a buddy on Friday to use his scan tool.

No clicking noise, and I checked the horn after mero comment about the horn band: horn works.
As much as I baby the damn thing, it is turning 11 this year and component failures are expected.
Again, appreciate the suggestions. I'll follow up when this is resolved.

Most likely it's the r\f pretensioner. It's a common problem.

Worked on a tiida that had that issue last year.

Righto, I wanted to run the scan first to.see what additional problems are there, but whereas the scanner works on my buddy's Y11, it doesn't work on the Y12.

So I tried the video Coppershot linked and it worked. Light reset.

Can anyone recommend a scanner that works on the Y12? I used the Micro Mechanic and the Car Scanner app from the Google Play store.

Btw Les Bain, there has been air bag recalls for the past few years for Honda and now Toyota. Local and foreign used can be changed at the local dealer for free. Check if one is going on at Nissan for your model. When they finish switch, the will run diagnostics and you'll know if anything new comes up.

It may not be the problem but at least you safer.

Wait they do their recalls on foreign used vehicles for free at the local official franchises ? Anyone ever actually experienced that ?

Not sure about Toyota but Honda for sure.

Local dealers are supposed to do the change as the parent company will want to make sure their vehicles are safe so they don't business about local and foreign classifications.

this happens
for eg. once there is a recall and you fall within the warranty time from the reg date wherever your car was bought sterling has to honor it

Excellent and I guess worse case it’s to email the parent company if they are giving trouble because the precedence has already been set for recalls

there are serious repercussions if the local dealer does not honor recalls
they def don't give trouble for that
