Did anyone see a huge black object cross the top of the moon, from south to north, about 9:10 p.m. this evening.
It was the weirdest thing.
It was not the ISS nor any of Musk's satellites. Those have lights. The ISS is in low earth orbit so it is easy to see when it crosses over T&T.
It was not an ordinary satellite because those pass reflecting the sunlight.
This was totally strange. I discounted clouds because of the way it moved. I have never seen anything like that in my life.
And of course no pictures because by the time I got the camera up, it had already crossed and disappeared into the hazy northern sky.

i remember seeing this vid, and ur story stirred this back to mind.

There's a comet that's supposed to be visible soon

stev wrote:how fast was it moving? Initially, I did not pay it any mind because I thought it was a cloud. It was moving slowly.did it cross in a split second or took a while? It moved relatively slowly. It did not seem to be travelling at great speed, however, the speed from your backyard compared to the actual speed may vary significantly (like ground speed v true airspeed)did it reflect light? No light was reflected. It was totally black. The reason I went to get the camera was because of its motion, in a straight line, from south to north. That really stood out for me.
the Moon is very far away...further than a lot of people think it is (see pic below).....it was most likely something in the atmosphere like a jet or even an animal...did anyone else with you see it? could be a 'floater' in your eye (my mom has that problem)Interesting comment. I do get occasional flashes of light in the corner of my eyes. But, again, I know what i saw.
there is no possible way for you to see something cross the moon unless it was extremely huge (size of Iceland or a US state).....and if something that size were to cross the moon....well, ur not the only person who would have noticed....the moon is constantly being monitored by universities and other institutions......even amateur sky-gazers. I did see the ISS cross T&T once some years ago. It was huge and you could clearly see the lights from it. Other have also seen the ISS cross (but most times it is barely above the horizon. Disclaimer: I get NASA notifications as to when the ISS is likely to cross T&T. It is due to pass close to T&T at 8:25 p.m. this evening (Sunday).

If you spot it transiting the evening sky it looks about the size of Venus in the West on an evening. The ISS take about 90mins to orbit the earth so it moves pretty quickly across the sky.
