If we were doing a census, yes we don't count those abroad on the day the census was taken. But there remains nationals who are abroad temporarily like students and tourists and those abroad over longer periods like workers. They can return to TT anytime. 330,000 Trinis can send our herd immunity up or down

So if we have 485,000 fully vaccinated and 100,000 fully vaccinated students, Canadian farm workers and O&G crew return home. Do we add them to our numbers or do we only recognise ppl that were vaccinated within TT?

Relax, I think you are overthinking this. It is a simple question.

No. It was a dumba$$ question. You probably understand that now.

Habit7 wrote:Last year Rowley said 330,000 Trinbagonians live abroad. If they are counted within the 1.4M, are we counting them among the vaxxed/unvaxxed? Because that is like 24% of the population. And that will make the herd immune threshold either unattainable or already completed.

I am sorry that it falls short of your high standards. But the fact is 1.4M is the denominator for our herd immunity, and the 330,000 abroad, a quarter of our population, does affect that.

How? You see 330k Trini passports in line at the airport? No, you don't.

You misinterpreted the meaning of Rowley's statement -- and apparently continue to. And then asked a dumba§§ question. That's the only fact available to you.

It would take over a year for all 330k foreign trinis to come back anyway.

You speak of me misinterpreting Rowley's statement but misinterpret me as saying 330,000 persons will be returning to TT.

If you cant answer it just move on. I simply want to know if ppl vaccinated abroad are counted among our locally vaccinated number so as to achieve herd immunity.

Rowley's statement on the 330,000 persons last year was politicking meant at the time to frighten the population into accepting the closed border policy.
Our constitution allows for dual citizenship and we have a lot of those due to migration (%age wise). Never meant they all wanted to come or were willing to come back here.

Someone seems to get it.

MoH only tracks vaccinations given at a TTO site.

MoH assumes a 10% band (140k) of population necessary to reach their immunity targets.
https://tt.loopnews.com/content/how-clo ... y-explains

MoH targets are adjusted for projected natural immunity due to infection (information is provided from PAHO).

TTO annual net migration is less than +/-1% (14k) and deemed insignificant for national population adjustment with respect to MoH target setting.

The answer is: No. The number of TTO citizens living abroad is of little consequence to target estimates and is not considered.

You are don't seem to get it either.

The 330,000 ppl are not all permanent residents abroad. Among them are students, temporary workers and tourists who are normally resident here in Trinidad. This is not migration. If they were vaccinated abroad and returned to their HOME here in TT, are they numbered among our fully vaccinated population towards herd immunity?

We are likely to be vaccinating well into 2022, are we just continue for years hoping for 1.1M full vaccinations locally in TT when locals already got vaccinated abroad?

If you don't have an answer just ignore it nah, you want to argue how many angels can dance on the head of a pin and not bring anything substantial to the answer.

I answered the question. No. The number that you are struggling to quantify is likely 1% and of little significance in the target band of 10%. But let's look at a supplemental point: So that additional 1% is included in the tally. But the effect of the supplemental is of such small consequence that we just round off the answer and get back what we started with. So the two answers are the same.

You really do seem to keep on a point without understanding the point that you are trying to make has been deemed moot. So let's just say yes instead.

Postby Dohplaydat » September 29th, 2021, 1:23 pm

Just to add some quick commentary, the majority of trinis returning will most likely be vaccinated because:
1. Most universities are now requiring students to be vaxed.
2. Many who work abroad would probably need to be vaccinated for work
3. Must trinis are liberals and vaccination rates are higher in that demographic
4. Who wants to spend 2 weeks in quarantine when they return to Trinidad

So Habit7 while your concern is noted, if we were to add 330k citizens to our population, it's likely their rate of vaaccination will be higher.

Migration and Immigration are two different things.
In 2019 our international Migrant Stock abroad stood at 59,000 persons according to the UNDP.
The migrant stock was defined as "data on these stocks are based mostly on the country’s population that is born abroad, and (where this information is not available) on holding a foreign citizenship"
United Nations, Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Population Division (2019). International Migrant Stock 2019 (United Nations database, POP/DB/MIG/Stock/Rev.2019).

These are the people most likely to return after moving for studies, temporary workers etc. Once again the basis of the use of multi hundred thousand figure was on an erroneous premise.

Nobody said 330,000 ppl would be returning home at once, it was just context for the number of nationals abroad. The question was whether they were counted within the 1.4M or not. Because whichever amount of those ppl return home, do they add to either our vaxxed or unvaxxed numbers, thereby affecting our herd immunity? Do we record John Q Trini on a one-way or return flight to TT as a vaxxed or unvaxxed on the goal to national herd immunity.

Status of some UK citizens vaccinated overseas still not recognised by NHS
Ministers pledged people inoculated overseas but registered with GP in UK would be able to get vaccine record updated by end of July

Wed 4 Aug 2021 06.00 BST

Ministers have been criticised for their failure to let some people vaccinated overseas have their double-jab status recognised by the NHS, after a promise the system would be changed to enable them to do so by the end of July was not met.

In the final week before the Commons broke up for recess, the vaccines minister, Nadhim Zahawi, sought to reassure MPs that the government was working quickly to help those who were inoculated overseas but registered with a GP in the UK.

He said on 22 July that “by the end of this month” that would change – and that “UK nationals who have been vaccinated overseas will be able to talk to their GP, go through what vaccine they have had, and have it registered with the NHS that they have been vaccinated”.

GPs would need to check the vaccine the person received had been approved in the UK – and once that process was completed they could have their vaccine record updated, enabling them to prove their double-jabbed status.

The government is already urging some venues such as nightclubs to use the NHS app’s Covid pass, which only displays people’s vaccine status if they were jabbed in the UK – meaning those who got their dose overseas will not be able to use the technology.

When asked by the Guardian if people jabbed abroad could have that information registered with their GP, the Department of Health and Social Care admitted the change earmarked to happen by the end of July had not yet come into force.

A spokesperson said: “Only Covid-19 vaccines administered in England and Wales can currently be shown through the NHS Covid pass.

“We recognise there are a large variety of Covid-19 vaccines being administered worldwide and work is ongoing to determine which non-UK vaccines and certification solutions to recognise.”

The DHSC added that people registered with a GP who were vaccinated overseas could contact their practice – but they still could not use the app to demonstrate their inoculation.

Liz Kendall, the shadow health minister, said it was “yet another case of ministers over-promising and then failing to deliver, leaving many people still unable to obtain a Covid pass after being told they’d be able to”.

She added: “Those who live abroad and have done the right thing by getting vaccinated will feel let down by the government’s failure to find a solution.

“Ministers need to be straight with the public and provide clarity about progress on a globally recognised international vaccine passport – working with the EU and US to get travel moving again.”

Caroline Lucas, the Green MP and vice-chair of the all-party parliamentary group on coronavirus, said people who received recognised vaccines abroad were “being let down by the government’s mixed messages and broken promises”.

She added that there should be “swift action to make the NHS pass compatible with international systems and ensure those who were told they could use it are able to”, and that ministers should be “clear and consistent in their advice to avoid further damaging public trust”.

While arrivals from overseas are locked out of using the NHS app for domestic certification to prove they have been vaccinated, the government did change the rules from this week to let in those who have been double-jabbed in Europe and the US – so long as it was with a vaccine approved for use by three regulators: the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency.

Can't wait for a union and company to battle it out in Industrial Court here over this issue. Based on what we have been seeing BIGWU could be the 1st to duke it out.
Should be epic!!!

Who calls the shot? Jamaica between a rock and a hard place on vaccine mandates

Thursday, September 30, 2021

We don't know how many Jamaicans, if any, are among the nearly 600 employees United Airlines said yesterday it would be firing for refusing to comply with a requirement to be vaccinated for COVID-19. But the bald truth is that we can feel the noose tightening around Jamaica's neck where mandatory vaccination is concerned, as more and more of the world insist that it can no longer wait for enough people to make up their minds and take the jab.

The Jamaican Government has taken the position — which we firmly support — that it will not mandate vaccinations, at least for now, until adequate supplies and greater ease of access can be assured.

We are seeing, however, that at the rate major countries and companies are demanding mandatory inoculation, Jamaica may soon not be in a position decide on our own whether to vax or not to vax.

United Airlines is only the latest of the international giants to have told its 67,000 workforce to get vaccinated and upload their vaccine card to the company's system. Seeing the writing on the wall, more than 99 per cent of the remaining US staff has complied, the airline reported.

Britain, with which we have enjoyed such deep familial ties after our long colonial relationship, has shown its willingness to jettison the island because of the low rate of vaccination here, worsened by the high rate of infections and death from COVID-19.

Protest as we might, even Foreign Minister Senator Kamina Johnson Smith has had to admit that the “stoplight travel status (involving the United Kingdom) is a function of our vaccination numbers, hospitalisations, variants, and related considerations in Jamaica”.

She says: “It is quite clear that these circumstances need to be improved for ourselves, and for this reason… the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has requested data from the Ministry of Health and Wellness to assist the UK Government in the review of Jamaica's vaccination programme.”

In the event anyone is hoping that Britain will change its mind and be nice to us, Senator Johnson Smith couldn't have made it any clearer: “The travel status of the country is another reason why we all should be vaccinated in order to reduce the spread of [the novel coronavirus]… serious illness, hospitalisation, and the development of variants. We need to improve the level of protection for ourselves, our families and the wider population. We are all in this together!”

Following the cue of the US Government, many of the largest American companies are instituting mandatory vaccination no matter the cost. Critics there have sued, unsuccessfully so far, to stop Indiana University's mandate. Some Republican politicians have also tried to stop mandates, including governors Ron DeSantis of Florida and Mike DeWine of Ohio.

Yet, those on the side of mandates seem to be winning the battle.

According to The New York Times, before Houston Methodist became one of the first hospital systems in the US to mandate COVID-19 vaccines, about 85 per cent of its employees had been vaccinated. After the mandate, the share rose to about 98 per cent. Only about 0.6 per cent of employees quit or were fired.

A recent Kaiser Family Foundation survey of Americans who had been opposed to getting vaccinated and later changed their minds found that mandates on the unvaccinated did the trick.

The situation is snowballing.

Ah hope they have for my 2nd shot :| ...I done seeing people getting wrong vaccine :?

that should be a reason to sue. they made a mistake and if u get serious adverse reactions it could have been due to that. the liability waiver should not apply where mistakes are made.

Some people have opted to take a different vaccine for their second dose

New study on hospitalization rates for different strains.

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101 ... 21264272v1

Our study includes individuals with positive SARS–CoV–2 RT PCR in the Washington Disease Reporting System and with available viral genome data, from December 1, 2020 to July 30, 2021.

Of the 27,814 cases, 23,170 (83.3%) were sequenced through sentinel surveillance, of which 726 (3.1%) were hospitalized due to COVID–19.

Higher hospitalization risk was found for infections with Gamma (HR 3.17, 95% CI 2.15–4.67), Beta (HR: 2.97, 95% CI 1.65–5.35), Delta (HR: 2.30, 95% CI 1.69–3.15), and Alpha (HR 1.59, 95% CI 1.26–1.99) compared to infections with an ancestral lineage.

Following VOC infection, unvaccinated patients show a similar higher hospitalization risk, while vaccinated patients show no significant difference in risk, both when compared to unvaccinated, ancestral lineage cases. Infection with a VOC results in a higher hospitalization risk, with an active vaccination attenuating that risk. Our findings support promoting hospital preparedness, vaccination, and robust genomic surveillance.

So gamma is worse than Delta, but delta more infectious. Interesting.

Several countries have allowed mixing COVID vaccines: Here is all you need to know

While studies have proved their benefits to be aplenty, some medical experts and doctors still continue to be wary of pushing the policy into use, just yet, citing the lack of available data and concerns.

When COVID-19 vaccination drives were first kickstarted, authorities continued to attest that beneficiaries should only and only get doses of the same kind, i.e., same vaccine model. However, not only would a mixing policy allow people to secure two different doses, but go against equitable distribution, but there's simply a lack of available data right now to support the same, and determine if mixing together experimental COVID-19 vaccines is actually that effective.

The push of tweaked vaccination policies has also become a concerning issue for global health authorities, such as the WHO who believe that mixing vaccines right away could be a 'dangerous' trend since it allows people to decide for themselves- when, and what vaccines they would get.

The experimental push could also further dry up resources for the countries which do not have enough resources yet.

Is it safe?

The immunogenicity and tolerability results from several clinical trials have shown that there is no harm in mixing and matching COVID-19 vaccines right now, and instead, it would only build better immune strength. However, there's no relevant, or substantial data to support the safety as yet.

While there are some who have stressed that mixing vaccines could lead to more, or different side-effects than expected, safety on the usage of such vaccines can only be ascertained after when we have enough data to back the same. Nonetheless, preliminary research has still proven the benefits of trying out a mix and match policy.
