Take time to prep for the Biden/Trump remix.

TOPEKA — Former President Donald Trump announced a new White House campaign in November ahead of a 2024 campaign cycle that could be punctuated by a rematch with President Joe Biden.

Trump, who never conceded the 2020 race and suggested the U.S. Constitution ought to be suspended so he could be installed as president, could be weighed down by the the U.S. House’s criminal referral of Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, ongoing tax scandals and investigation of missing government records. His reelection loss also could erode support among independent voters.

U.S. voters evaluating a reelection campaign by Biden could point to dreary economic indicators, the president’s lackluster approval ratings and the Democrat’s age of 80 — four years senior to Trump. Biden said he intended to run, but would make such an announcement in early 2023.

The Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas recently assembled a panel of national political pollsters, consultants and journalists to explore potential of a Trump-Biden contest, weigh the standing of alternative candidates for president and consider issues that could factor into outcome of the election.

For the first time in 100 years, the selection of Speaker of the House goes to extra rounds of votes ...

LOL!

The GQP is in a mess. Almost hope Kevin gets the votes. Let that spine-free sycophant and his sliver thin majority continue to destroy their brand while the entire world sees the clown-car of crazy and chaos over the next few years in the house under his "leadership."

Biden: GOP speaker drama 'embarrassing' and 'not my problem'
The comments come after the House failed to elect a speaker on the first ballot for the first time in a century.

Why would McCarthy still want to be speaker after this? Even if he gets it he always risks having a successful no confidence vote going against him given the margins.

If McCarthy does not become Speaker, his next step is to unceremoniously leave politics and join the board of a company that needs friends in DC, like Ryan and Boehner before him.

Bowers will be among 12 people who will be awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by Joe Biden at the White House at a ceremony to mark the second anniversary of the 6 January 2021 insurrection at the US Capitol. It will be the first time that the president has presented the honor, which is reserved for those who have “performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens”.

All 12 took exceptional personal risks to protect US democracy against Trump’s onslaught. Many are law enforcement officers who confronted the Capitol rioters, others are election workers and officials in key battleground states who refused to be bullied into subverting the outcome of the presidential race.

Several of the recipients paid a huge personal price for their actions. Brian Sicknick will receive the presidential medal posthumously – he died the day after the insurrection having suffered a stroke; a medical examiner later found he died from natural causes, while noting that the events of January 6 had “played a role in his condition”.

Bowers’ award, first reported by the Deseret News, came after he refused effectively to ignore the will of Arizona’s 3.4 million voters and switch victory from Biden to Trump. As a result, he incurred the wrath of Trump, who endorsed a rival candidate in last year’s Republican primary elections.

Not surprised McCarthy had to bend the knee and make concessions to become speaker, he didn't have much choice.

Progressives should learn from this incident when they had the chance to strongarm Pelosi back in Jan 2021 in "Force to Vote" to get Medicare for All.

Well we know that but expected the squad and the rest of the progressives to change things up in the dem party but instead they got neutered and falling into the status quo. You have to give Pelosi credit tho, discipline and kept them in line.

"Red wave" crew upset and lashing out at Dems again? LMAO

I like how progressives realizing that forcing a vote on ONE issue that even they knew was a doomed vote in the house, is the same as McCarthy selling his entire soul with multiple concessions to the MAGA mouth-breathing faction, rendering him impotent from here forward, to squeeze out a meagre win after historic numbers of losing votes just to smell the gavel. False equivalence coming in clutch to ease the pain.

Aite, lol.

But, that's at least, close to how parliament is supposed to operate.
No member beholden to the party, and alllll members supporting good bad or ugly.

Where even their own comrades hold off on support unless they get some of their own demands met.

Now, to go the extra mile, to hold out fur those demands to be fir the benefit of the burgesses

UK parliamentary system may but the US Congress doesn't work that way. You sound as though you have never studied anything regarding foreign systems of government. IIRC, there hasn't been a burgess in the US in nearly 250 years.

In the last 200 years, seven of the eight drawn-out elections for Speaker of the House resulted in a US Congress where little was accomplished but the creation of further chaos. Four of those eight House elections occurred in the lead-up to the US Civil War.

Correct, never studied any foreign systems of government.

Just saying, going along part lines for party sake isn't an honest application of that position

Nothing new there. Dimmy has been catering to his right wing and "libertarian" followers for a few years now.

Ever since Bernie blanked him and avoided going on his show a few years back, prompting him to say he "hoped Bernie loses" his devolution has been ongoing.

House GOP passes repeal of IRS funding boost as its first bill in the majority

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated Monday that the legislation would eliminate about $71 billion of the total $80 billion that was allocated for the IRS, but would reduce tax revenue by about $186 billion, translating to a $114 billion increase in deficits over the next decade.

Republicans have repeatedly falsely claimed the 87,000 new IRS employees, which would be added over the course of a decade, will be “agents.”

The 87,000 figure comes from a May 2021 Treasury Department compliance report estimating new hires over a decade with the $80 billion funding boost. But only a small portion of the department’s current employees are agents, and the department has said the figure accounts for other workers such as customer service representatives and computer scientists, as well as replacing the 52,000 employees expected to retire or resign within the next six years.

The Hill: House GOP passes repeal of IRS funding boost as its first bill in the majority.
