Two cars, same registration

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » November 19th, 2020, 1:55 pm

Two Nissan B13 with the same registration at licensing office

The clerk processing a request for a certified copy checked the Authority’s database, Rahim’s car was seen registered in a woman’s name.

“They said they couldn’t tell me anything else but one of the clerks write the woman name and address on one of my papers by mistake and I went to her home looking for her. I didn’t find her and then I went to her workplace…when I was leaving Chaguanas, I spotted the car and stopped,” Rahim said.

He said the car, also a Nissan B13 bore the same registration of his vehicle before he converted it to ‘H’ in 2003 to ply his trade as a taxi driver.

“While I was watching the car, the woman came out and met me. She told me she had only bought that car a few months before and didn’t have any idea there were issues with the registration. I called the police, they came and said both vehicles would be seized.”

fishy case.
Wonder if it was a clerical error, or actual internal fraud

From the article it seems they only allowed one car to be returned, the woman's B13 stayed impounded it seems

Rahim stated that he will only get his own if he agrees to sell it for scrap. Tough

It’s funny that the hospitals have communications departments and customer service departments but licensing office doesn’t have . At least they should be able to sort out these peoples issues as fast as possible . Uncle working his taxi and it is his bread and butter

he should write gg to tell him impounding the car will deprive him of pursing his livelyhood, to speed up the investigation.

Yeah they gave the same batch of numbers to LO in the North and South.
I only remember this because a coworker at the time had a duplicate number on a vehicle bought new from the dealership.

I had the same problem years ago. I have a boat trailer and another pick up had the same plates. Pick had a hit and run and police was on my case for it after they pulled the ceritifted copy. Police came to inspect trailer and my certified copy . All was in order and was a case of stolen plates. I don't think they ever found the pick up.

Some one in LO views trailers plates which very rarely you would use and they pass them on for others to use.

Isn't the system all electronic and generates numbers randomly?
Maybe it was hacked given recent events that have been taking place?

the whole plate system is flawed, I see they change the type of inspection stickers being used now.
still being stuck on the glass, instead of the plates like in other countries to add a greater level of security against fake plates.

So a X-Gear and an LE with the same plate? This looks like a LO error and not one from Massy. I want to know what the CCO indicates. Is it the same VIN with same plates or two different VINs with the same plates?

If the latter then that DBA need to answer some questions, because the system generated the same plate for an existing VIN.

Don't forget even before this random number selection thing that Lifestyle Motors had a similar situation with 2 Suzuki Swifts. The error was a plate mix-up. IIRC, the owners drove away with 2 identical cars but with the wrong plate.

Really hard to see how this could be a "mistake" if it truly is a computer generated number from a central database. The program should have several checkpoints in its coding to ensure that there is no issued duplicity and immediately flag it.

Don't vehicles have to be 4 years old to need to be inspected

why yuh think bandits like to go in malls and steal newish cars like elantra etc and out on false plate to use for big crimes later

the inspection sticker should be stuck on plates from inception and tamper proof unpeelable

i went to collect a cc last week in caroni
have a girl there typing in long lists of vin numbers on a spreadsheet by hand and look like no double checking
could see how easy it is to make mistakes when you have long lists like that on a screen

I think I see the new machine readable sticker on some tea or sumting. When it now came out and advertised.
