Paid $117 to bring in an iPad using websource.

The case cost nearly as much. Like $70.

So there's no tax on phones
Customs still find a reason to bond a shipment of cellphones .
Probably 2500 us for the whole shipment of 5 phones.

And customs broker says the next available appointment for customs clearance entry is February 9th.

Most likely this is the customs officers trying to secure a bribe. Because the items are declared properly and there's no tax no absolutely no reason to bond it .

Does it affect if a business is bringing them in ? Did they find some loophole that may require a customs broker ?

Can they claim it’s a commercial shipment and bond it?

its coming under a personal name. not commercial or company name

usually under 20,000 TT requires no customs entry , thats been the rule for years

not sure if anything change

but more than likely its a $500 a customs official looking for to "speed up the delay and sort out this issue quickly"

so my items have been bonded and the appointment for clearance is 29th January
have to hire a broker to do customs entry/clearance etc

a very senior customs official tell me he don't understand why it was bonded, nothing under 20k should be bonded or require customs entry.

see why bribe does hadda go on

did you bring in any large shipments recently? Maybe is the same officer and they remembered the name and decide its commercial.

You would think things would be more consistent with the new exemptions

i got my items like 8am this morning

you should keep your items closer to 15k rather than closer to the 20k customs entry limit

anything within 3k of 20k they will bond it if they want. hit you a 2 weeks wait time, you have to hire broker etc.

specifically talking about cellphones here

Ah so it was them considering whether it’s a business account as we suspected

no. it was them randomly selecting a package and hoping for a bribe to speed things up.

that shipment was 2500 USD Thats $17500 if 7 to 1.

ive gotten 3-4shipments every single day this week ranging from 12000 to 60,000 and not needed a customs entry
and all correctly invoiced

a seller on ebay called decluttr_store
they give a 12month warranty

they have positive feedback of over 2 million phones sold
they must have serious links with off contract buyers to get that number of phones to stock and sell

I think someone earlier in the thread was asking. Something along the lines of peripheral devices.

No duty was charged. Watches are usually 30% duty.
