yes they're completely off
only pay shipping and insurance (if you want)

shipments close to $3000 USD (like two high end iphones) will be bonded by customs and you need to hire a broker to clear it

Does anyone know if smart watches, like apple watch, are included in the duty exemption?

Brought in a Samsung Z flip for wifey for Xmas, man the skybox bill was like just over $100 TT !! 8-)

Seems like it's the same with 'Eyewear' also..similar bill for just shipping and handling on a pair of Raybans...

Watches aren't exempted. I paid more to clear a Galaxy Watch than I paid for it. 30% by what my skybox rep said

They are not exempted
Can either be taxed as a watch (higher duty) or electronic

Not so on actual prescription spectacles.
Brought in 2 pairs and get the entire BBC. Zero lube.

As usual, Customs on s#it.

Complete spectacles would be exempt. Frames alone is subject to taxes.
Still works out cheaper than procuring locally.
The glasses industry locally reminds me of Tstt rates for foreign calls before internet cafes and those calling places evolved.

That's because glasses are medical prescription devices and locally the company is liable for all the warranty and guarantee to the patient. Therefore it's a business model that is needed to sustain the industry in Trinidad. Because eye exams are practically free here too to allow everyone access to eye care.

Who exactly online is checking to see if they made the right lenses for you? Do you even know if you got the right lens and if they're working for you as the Optometrist prescribed? Especially with higher prescriptions. OK Suppose you have a cylinder of -3.00 and the axis is a mere 5° off on your online purchase? Would you even be aware of that for your skybox delivery? It's a legal medial device eh. That will not fly locally, and when you receive the glasses locally I recall that it is double checked by the sales people on the machine, and then checked on the patient with a reading chart too. See if this making sense.

But I would have no argument with the consumer who has a right to choose. But now knowing this info. Sunglasses, definitely I buy online. Prescription, no.
