WTK: Hilux transponder key programming.

Postby newto4x4 » January 25th, 2021, 4:01 pm

Need to get another key for my recently purchased 2009 Hilux Vigo Japan’s model from Rampersad.

Saw this:

How to Program a Toyota Transponder Chip Key
1 First you will need to purchase a blank Toyota transponder key. You can do this from the dealership, a locksmith, or an online source such as eBay. Once you have the key, take the blank key and the master key to a locksmith that he or she can duplicate the key. This will be much cheaper than the dealership.
2 Now that you have the newly cut key and the master key, you can program the Toyota transponder key. Sit in the driver's side of the Toyota vehicle. Press and release the brake and gas pedal simultaneously.
3 Insert the master transponder key. Do not turn it. Push and release the gas pedal 5 times within at least 15 seconds of inserting the master key.
4 Press and release the brake pedal 6 times within 20 seconds of completing step 3, then remove the master transponder key.
5 Insert the newly cut transponder key into the ignition, but do not turn. Press the gas pedal once.
6 Wait up to 2 minutes or whenever the security light on the dashboard turns off. Once the light goes off, remove the new transponder key and press the brake pedal once. The new transponder key should now be programmed. Test the key by attempting to start the engine. If the engine does not start, repeat the steps above.

How to Replace Toyota Keys With a Chip
1 Close all of the doors and the windows of your car and lock and unlock the driver's door with your smart key.
2 Enter the car with one smart key and insert the key into the ignition.
3 Wait for the security light to turn on and leave the key into the ignition without turning it for 15 seconds.
4 Remove the key after 15 seconds and pump the brakepedal 5 times to exit the programming sequence.

Anyone ever tried this.
I have to get the blank.

That long procedure is to program the vehicle to recognize the new key with its own rfid

I think most of the locksmiths are doing the opposite, they are cloning existing keys
Assuming you have a working key.

All of the above and also Rudd.

As was stated, don't mess around especially if it means you not being allowed into your own vehicle.

the chip probably cost a couple hundred, plus a lil 40 for the metal blank and the programmer some big money so it adds up as well as key cutting machine

locksmiths are a diff breed of folks

*Looks at old school Hilux key with absolutely nothing on it except the Toyota logo on the plastic end, smiles, and goes about my business*
