Fisher e.t.c Speakers from the early 80's?

Postby mikehende » May 18th, 2021, 1:19 pm

Hey guys, I am trying to build back an early 80s system. Bud of mine used to have what I believe to be a pair of Fisher 15" 3-way speakers but he does not remember the brand or model number. All he said was it had 3 speakers [15", mid and tweeter] and brown detachable cover.

I got my hands on this Fisher ST-845 but they started manufacturing these in 1984 so that's out.

This 4-way Pioneer I think was in the 70s

So I am looking for a 3-way from either Kenwood, Pioneer or Fisher from around 1980, any ideas please?

As mentioned they started manufacturing it in 1984 plus the ones my bud had those had paper mid and tweeter cones like the Pioneer above.

Ok gotcha, you trying to ID his pair, I thought you were ruling out those for your set. Do you remember the colour of his woofers, white or black?

I never saw the woofers when we used to hang out, it always had the brown cover on.

nostalgia is nice , fisher was a good brand u used to hear about back in d day, we have a double cassette player\copier from them

we used to have a set Sharp receiver with radio, turntable, cassette & 2 12" 3 way boxes , sounded great

then we had a pair of 3 way 12" Phillips which also sounded great , both sets were sealed boxes

concern is if any of this old stuff still exist today, by now their cones\soft parts wud be dry rot & brittle ... my advice : build a fresh set using new modern speakers that closely match d old time stuff

I am in NY otherwise I would have definitely checked those guys out.

My goal is to get the original equipment to get that original sound and tone from back then, with a newer system it won't sound the same. There are people here selling vintage stuff in perfect working condition but the brand and model I am seeking will tell me what to look for.

Vintage audio is a big scene now, most popular speakers of the past have rebuild kits for cones, surrounds etc.

That's a great idea which I will do whenever Covid situation gets better thanks!

I had looked into reconing but that will change the original sound of the woofer. Refoaming is not an issue.

I hear you, nothing like, for instance the scratchy sound of a vinyl record before a good song comes on an old school system

Exactly!! I found this site here and have a lot of homework to do since it's listing by the year, hopefully I should find it "if it was a Fisher brand":

A bud of mine in Arima is interested in checking out these places for a Receiver. For the guy in PT, any landmark area to make it easier for my bud to check please?

He's an old guy, probably one of the few around long enough to know what you want

Most of the guys around 60 years old whom I had spoken to don't remember the details of what they had.

That one is from the late 60s:

I have a similar Realistic pair which I use only for when playing 50s-Mid 70s music.
