Passed by Tru Valu Trincity yesterday, the President 200g was marked down by $6.55 to $18.95 and it was buy one get one free, only the salted ones though, still pick up a couple as I'm doing alfredo tomorrow. If that was unsalted would have bought all

Fresh Market prices started dropping.
Not near what it was in October/November, but it should regress to the mean over the next couple weeks.

Supermarkets now locking away cheese to stop shoplifters.

https://www.cnc3.co.tt/supermarkets-now ... _Nok_3qpio

supermarkets have now resorted to placing cheese and luxury meat products under lock and key to try and stop organised shoplifting from taking place, the Supermarket Association of T&T has stated.

The SATT stated, however, that this and other costs to implement security measures could be decreased if “serious and sustainable actions” were taken by the authorities.

“We also note that the cost of security and security measures in our industry is very high and, in fact, increasing. This is a cost that can be decreased if there are serious and sustainable actions taken by the authorities to control and reduce crime levels in dealing with criminal elements,” SATT said in a release issued yesterday.

“These costs borne by retailers have become necessary in the face of soaring and organised pilferage. The perception lingers that there are no consequences for these actions of deliberate theft. This becomes plainly evident when items such as cheese and luxury meat products are placed under lock and key to try to stymie losses due to pilferage,” it added.

The SATT said this must be adjusted by not only meaningful policing and joint patrols, but by enabling the proper recourse via the prescribed legislation which is “regrettably leaky to allow repeat offenders time and time again.”

“We must offer comfort to our shoppers to provide a safe and secure shopping environment. We now seek the same comfort from those entrusted with the administration of planning those measures aimed at combating this dire situation from which has severely impacted the business community and greatly shrunken the appetite from SMEs for commercial risk. We look forward to meaningfully supporting national efforts in this regard,” SATT said.

SATT yesterday noted with considerable concern and distress the continuous rise and intensity of criminal activity that is hampering public confidence and commercial retail activity.

According to SATT the record murder toll not only shocks the shopping public, but also emboldens miscreants while retailers hold their breath wondering if they are next.

“The clamour for Firearm User’s Licenses by the business community comes at a time when there is a debate about whether the licenses obtained by some persons were deemed to be illicit or ill-gotten. In that instance, we welcome the prosecution of those persons so that the legitimate needs of the business community, who continue to cower in fear of the criminal element, are met with some empathy by the office of the Commissioner of Police,” SATT said.

Food prices had soared during the first half of 2022, driven by the war in Ukraine as well as extreme weather across different parts of the globe causing volatility in key foodstuffs such as grains and oilseeds. The FAO said international prices of commonly-traded food commodities averaged 143.7 points through the year--14.3% higher than the average value over 2021.

"Calmer food commodity prices are welcome after two very volatile years," FAO Chief Economist Maximo Torero said.

Supermarket produce is almost always more expensive than market price. Sometimes 150-200%

Wouldn't doubt its local as pumpkins have been expensive a while now.
However what is the purpose of these posts?
Anyone going to buy pumpkin is Tru Valu, Massy etc already starting bad.

Go market and then tell us what the price is. Supermarket pricing for their customers.

pumpkin is 25-30 a lb in most veggie sheds

ppl feel that they dont have to pay a price for proper parking, air conditioned shopping, large aisles with shopping carts, security etc

The price on the label is $51/kg or $23.20/lb.

If the prices are accurate, Tru Valu is beating the market vendor.

All the flood prices from Nov/Dec 2022 should come down and stabilize by March 2023 I hope? Planting cycles, if predicted weather prevails. The extra rain forecast for this Dry Season should be good for crops, it's the new excess rainfall in the Wet Season to really worry about.

So guys, I bought a vacuum sealer and some bags. While prices go down, it's freezer vacuum time. It stays fresh and doesn't get freezer burned and dehydrated. People usually utilize it for seasoned meats, but it working good on some veges and cooked foods so far. I even put away some macaroni pie after Christmas.
6 months storage in deep freeze I think, so I'll come back with real world results then on the status of revived items. All items that are sealed are labelled and with a date.

It's worth an investment because you know it going to have harder foods times ahead with such real climate change we are experiencing. Vacuum bags adding up in cost though. And then there's a pollution cost to consider, but I don't think it's worse that what we're doing right now regarding plastic waste on food.

I bought pumpkin @ $7/lb for whole ones a few weeks ago, like someone said above, cut it up and store in the freeze, bought several large heads of lettuce @$5 each in Cunupia Saturday last, gave away to neighbours and family, good to see that price has gone down from as much as $18 pre-Christmas
