Hows about, and I jes spitballin here eh, yuh train the animal to NOT run out when the gate opens. It NOT hard to do, and don't take long to teach, and it saves you time and energy, and it saves the pooch his life.
Come outside to go to work
Lock up dog
Open gate, get in car and drive out
Get out d car and go back and close gate
Let go dog
Try to get back thru gate without dog running out the yard
Get in car and drive to work.
Come outside to go to work
Open gate, dog walks away from gate
Drive out, get out and and close gate
Get back in car and go to work
Life doh hadda be complicated

My dogs know that they are to remain back from the gate until it has completely opened or closed. As sins said, that training is 30 mins for a lifetime of convenience.

Dog is in kennel, housekeeper brings children to other ppl house, dog gets released from kennel, bites child and is shot.Still dog and its owner's fault.
