Basic plumbing should be known by any home owner. You never know at what ungodly hour something may go wrong and you would have to DIY. Always keep some elbows, collars, cement and threadseal etc. At least if you really can't remedy you have parts for someone to assist you.
Exercise your angle and stop cork valves to ensure they will stop water flow if needed.
