American officials estimate that nearly 200,000 Russian troops have been killed or wounded in Moscow’s nearly yearlong conflict with Ukraine, The New York Times reported.

The rising number of casualties is driven in part by heavy fighting in Bakhmut and Soledar in eastern Ukraine, where Russia is increasingly sending poorly trained recruits and convicts to the front lines in an effort to deplete Ukrainian artillery, according to the Times.

However, officials have warned that the casualty numbers — which are based on satellite imagery, intercepted communications, social media, on-the-ground reporting and official government numbers — are difficult to estimate and imprecise.

That number is probably over exaggerated and more likely 100k, and it's possibly the same number on the Ukrainian side as well I imagine.

Lots of wasted lives for nothing.

Right so you crying like a little b!tch because you are upset the world has been fighting evil since the dawn of mankind?

Russia is a terrorist state which literally invaded it's neighbor who has an army and budget a fraction of that of Russia, yet Russia still lost like a little b!tch like all bullies lose when you start to punch back and now to avoid embarrassment Russia has no choice but to continue with a useless war for the next 10 years which Russia will then completely collapse as a society under sanctions.

Putin invaded because East Ukraine has huge reserves of Oil and Gas and Lithium and like all thieves nothing is ever enough for them. He just uses the word "nazi" to fool gullible retards like yourself.
Zelensky isn't a nazi he is Jewish and his family was mostly wiped out in the Holocaust.
But then you are a Holocaust denier so not that it matters.

Russia is currently burning through soviet era equipment and ammo most of which is now almost completely empty since most of their targets have been maternity hospitals and kids playgrounds etc and they can't even find spare parts for their oil and gas industry or their airplanes now, they have to cannibalize older units just to get things running, none of which is sustainable.

Putin the 4D chess player is the real MVP of NATO he is the gift that keeps on giving thanks to him Russia will soon turn into somalia not that they were ever that far away to begin with and we get to test all our western weapons to see how effective they are without directly engaging in a war.
America is a terrorist state.

Some independent estimates are higher than 200,000 casualties (killed, missing, wounded). There were 210,000 US casualties during the 20 years of the Vietnam War.

It’s Possible 270,000 Russians Have Been Killed Or Wounded In Ukraine

It should go without saying that such steep losses could undermine Russia’s ability to sustain current operations—to say nothing of launching a new offensive.

The New York Times last week quoted U.S. officials estimating Russian casualties as “approaching 200,000.” But the analysts at the Conflict Intelligence Team believe Russian losses could be closer to 270,000.

CIT scrutinized media reports—in particular, the BBC’s own analysis of Russian obituaries—and concluded that Russian families since February 2022 have buried as many as 33,000 soldiers.

Next, CIT estimated the number of Russian troops who are missing in action by applying the MIA ratio that the Russian 1st Tank Army reported in documents the Ukrainians captured last spring.

After three months of hard fighting around Kyiv, the 1st Tank Army registered 61 dead and 44 missing. The same ratio, if it applies to the entire Russian war effort, points to tens of thousands of MIAs—most of whom actually are dead, in CIT’s estimation.

In all, CIT assumes as many as 65,000 Russians have died or gone missing in the wider war on Ukraine. Historically, modern armies suffer three or four wounded-in-action for every one soldier who’s killed in action. Thus CIT’s 270,000 overall figure for combined wounded and dead.

There are Telegram channels like Rusnya 200, Bochkala War, Supernova+ and a few others that all end in 200 where you regularly see videos and photos of Russian offensives that end with up to 30 dead (200 is official Russia code for cargo that is soldier corpses). This has been going on for months on end. 100k KIA was surpassed long time for sure.

Ukrainian officials have let slip sometimes and twice admitted that Ukraine were losing 100+ soldiers daily - Bakhmut/Soledar currently and in June last year when the Battle of Severodonetsk was ongoing (then a senior official said 200 deaths per day whilst the Minister of Defence said 100 per day)

But yes, lots of wasted deaths in two countries in Europe with the 2nd and 19th lowest Total Fertility rates, both of which are well below the required just to keep the population constant. All because of the madness of an unstable dictator.

At the start of WWII, Ukraine was about the same size as it was last year. Ukraine had 1.6 million soldiers killed in action (not wounded, not missing) during WWII. I doubt that there will be a Ukrainian surrender in the near future.

I follow quite a few pro-Russian and pro-Ukrainian Twitter accounts, there are horrendous losses on both sides.

Right now these Russian accounts show a lot of forced conscription of Ukrainians to fight, so it could be fair to say both sides are struggling to field sizeable & competent armies.

However, I can't fully buy into western propaganda that Russia is still floundering, they are not right now and I think it would be wise not to underestimate them right now.

Zalenksi is in London rounding up support because Ukraine needs a lot of weapons to withstand upcoming Russian attacks.

^ Bruv in one day I watched a video of two Russian soldiers drown in what looked like 1 foot of water, saw another one where a Ruskie was on fire running away from a tank and a 3rd video where it looked like 5 or 6 Ruskies hiding in a bomb crater all watched a drone dropped grenade land amongst them and nobody moved or ran.

This is not floundering by what is supposed to be the world's 2nd army?

Smashed By Ukrainian Mines And Artillery, Russia’s Winter Offensive Just Ground To A Halt Outside Vuhledar

Feb 8, 2023,09:05pm EST

Image
Russian armor outside Vuhledar.UKRAINIAN ARMY CAPTURE

Russia’s widely-anticipated winter offensive has begun. Aiming to extend its control over eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region, Russian troops are attacking north and south of Donetsk city.

In the northern sector, around the city of Bakhmut, the Russians slowly are advancing—albeit at staggering cost.

In the south, around Vuhledar, the Russians’ losses are just as steep—but they’ve made no clear gains that could justify the casualties. Vuhledar is turning into a meatgrinder for the Russian army, with enormous implications for the wider offensive.

The latest Russian attack on Vuhledar—a town with a pre-war population of just 14,000 that lies a mile north of Russian-held Pavlivka, 25 miles southwest of Donetsk—kicked off on Monday.

Seemingly a couple of battalions of Russian mechanized troops, together riding in a few dozen T-80 tanks and BMP-1 and BMP-2 fighting vehicles, advanced north.

The Ukrainian army’s elite 72nd Mechanized Brigade is entrenched around Vuhledar. It has laid minefields along the main approaches from Pavlivka. Its drones surveil the front. Its artillery is dialed in.

The Russians know this. And the assault force took rudimentary precautions. Tank crews injected fuel into their exhausts to produce smokescreens. At least one T-80 carried a mine-plow.

But leadership and intelligence failures—and Ukraine’s superior artillery fire-control—neutralized these measures. The Russian formation rolled into dense minefields. Destroyed tanks and BMPs blocked the advance. Vehicles attempting to skirt the ruined hulks themselves ran into mines.

Panicky vehicle commanders crowded so tightly into the smokescreens that Ukrainian artillery, cued by drones, could score hits by firing into the smoke. The Russians’ daylong attack ended in heavy losses and retreat. The survivors left behind around 30 wrecked tanks and BMPs.

Vuhledar is further evidence of the downward spiral in Russian military effectiveness. Armies that lack robust recruitment, training and industrial bases tend to become steadily less effective as losses deepen.

Russia Likely Lost Half Its Heavy Tanks In Ukraine: US

Agence France Presse | February 10, 2023

Half of Russia's main battle tanks have likely been destroyed or captured by Ukraine, a senior US defense official said Friday.

Russia "has probably lost half of its main battle tank stock in combat and through Ukrainian capture," Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Celeste Wallander said during a Center for a New American Security virtual event.

The estimate by Wallander -- who did not provide an exact figure for the number of tanks lost since Russia invaded in February 2022 -- comes as Ukraine is set to receive an influx of heavy Western tanks from its supporters.

Britain has said its Challenger 2 tanks will be deployed in Ukraine in March, while Germany and its allies aim to get a battalion of Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv by April.

The United States has also promised a battalion -- or 31 -- of its M1 Abrams tanks, but they are expected to take significantly longer to arrive.

In all fairness, russian tech not extremely faulty. Some inferiority comes from archaic machinery and no updates (because of Russky corruption), but mostly because of undereducated/poorly trained personnel.

According to the Ukrainian data, highlighted by the UK, 824 Russian losses a day is more than four times the rate reported in June and July, when around 172 Russian soldiers died each day.

The Ukrainian military claims 137,780 Russian military deaths since the full-scale invasion began.

The UK's MoD pointed out the recent increase could be due to "a range of factors, including lack of trained personnel, coordination, and resources across the front".

Ukraine "also continues to suffer a high attrition rate", the UK said.

Russian forces have made little progress in Ukraine since their retreat from the major southern city of Kherson last November.

Last month they captured the town of Soledar north of Bakhmut after an intense battle. Capturing Bakhmut could enable Russian forces to press on towards the bigger cities of Kramatorsk and Slovyansk.

Biden going there is a sign of theur acceptance of escalation.
Nato gonna step up actuvity and become an overt participant.

WWIII, yall

This here is the nato cheif admitting this war started in 2014.

To the sheit heads that saying that Russian action was unprovoked, this Is from the horses mouth that nato was provoking the action since a long time ago.

What is being conflated intentionally, is that the Russian action is to take over the whole of Ukraine and then other countries, to reform the ussr.

That is not so, it's just to liberate the ethnic RUSSIAN eastern states of Ukraine... States that were shelled by the Ukraine govt since 2014.

Doomsday Clock is ticking closer to midnight because of this one a$$hole who feel he is the new Hitler.

Feb 21 (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russia was suspending participation in the New START nuclear arms reduction treaty with the United States, after accusing the West of being directly involved in attempts to strike its strategic air bases.

"I am forced to announce today that Russia is suspending its participation in the strategic offensive arms treaty," he said.

WHAT IS THE NEW START TREATY?

Signed by then-U.S. President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev in 2010, the New START treaty caps the number of strategic nuclear warheads that the United States and Russia can deploy.

It came into force in 2011 and was extended in 2021 for five more years after U.S. President Joe Biden took office, and allows both U.S. and Russian inspectors to ensure that both sides are complying with the treaty.

Under the agreement, Moscow and Washington are committed to deploying no more than 1,550 strategic nuclear warheads and a maximum of 700 long-range missiles and bombers.

Each side can conduct up to 18 inspections of strategic nuclear weapons sites every year to ensure the other has not breached the treaty's limits.

WRT START given the Russian penchant for corruption and ineptitude I'm sure half thier nuclear arsenal is unusable.

If they want to spend tens of billions developing new nuclear weapons while they are under sanctions them go ahead. It only weakens them further.

The smallest European nuclear power, UK will still be capable of destroying the Russian Federation by themselves no matter what Russia builds up.

If they want to spend tens of billions developing new nuclear weapons while they are under sanctions them go ahead. It only weakens them further.

The smallest European nuclear power, UK will still be capable of destroying the Russian Federation by themselves no matter what Russia builds up.
Do u really want to find out?

Ur forgetting Russia has its nuclear arsenal on submarines. Targeted to major cities, with dead man's trigger.

Attack the Kremlin, u all go bye bye

MAD- mutually assured destruction.

Right now, the western countries are busy making the tour of the world trying to convince other countries to side with them, to weaken the Russian economy.

They are also trying to spin the perception that Russia has committed war crimes that USA will overtly step in and extract retribution.

The west is losing economy over this, so need more collaboration.

Hopefully good sense prevails, the rest of the world stays their current course, and encourage elensky to sign terms with russia.

Putin's miscalculation of Europe's ability to pivot away from Russian gas has resulted in permanent demand destruction.

One year ago, on the cusp of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it seemed unimaginable that renewable energy in Europe could overtake electricity from oil and gas.

But not even a year later, it did. By the end of 2022, wind and solar combined overtook natural gas in electricity generation. The latest data on Europe’s renewable transition tells a remarkably upbeat story about the hard things countries can accomplish on climate change with enough political will.

Before the Russia-Ukraine war, 40 percent of natural gas and 27 percent of oil imports to Europe came from Russia, and Europe lacked pipelines and terminals in locations that could distribute gas from other parts of the world like the US. After sanctions on Russian oil and gas, instability led to high price shocks, fuel shortages, and a brief uptick in coal usage this winter.

But the worst fears did not materialize, either. The risk was that the EU would fill the gap left by Russian sanctions with coal, the most polluting fossil fuel. And while coal did briefly make a comeback — fossil fuel generation rose last year by 3 percent — it was a temporary increase.

Meanwhile, solar energy especially is on an “unstoppable” track of growth, explained Dave Jones, an analyst at the global energy think tank Ember. Solar capacity in Europe doubled since 2018, and is on track to triple in the next four years.

Saber rattling obviously, Putin is just trying to get the NATO to hesitate a bit with supplying Ukraine more arms.

The longer Russia waits the better as their war economy gets going.

The wild card is whether China is going to supply Russia.

Saw a few interesting vids that said if China does this, due to economies of scale, they won't just be producing for Russia but for themselves as well.

Meaning that a fully (not fully from China yet 5k though) combined Russian and Chinese military complex will easily out produce the west.

Still unlikely fully scale war outside of Ukraine will break out but these are some very uneasy times..... Looking at you Taiwan.

Anyway I'm a bit drunk and tired right now, mas eh easy.
