IDB buys $728,000 drone for Tobago Emergency Management

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » May 14th, 2022, 12:56 pm

$728,000 drone gifted to TEMA by IDB

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Transformation has gifted the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UVA) in excess of $700,000.

“The drone itself cost around $500,000 – let’s protect it. The additional hardware and software costs around $300,000 but the exact number is $728,000 in total that has been spent.”

“The drone is intended to quickly allow TEMA to access damage and speed up emergency assistance in the event of a disaster. It will also facilitate more effective data analytics, mapping and forecast modelling by TEMA’s planning unit.”

They "forgot" to add maintenance costs.

Or maintenance will be free?

If it was Trinidad, it would mash up in no time.

I think Tobagonians would make a decent effort to keep it going. I hope my comment ages well in the future.

US$28k x 7.5 = TT$210,00.00.

All the rest are taxes or up front maintenance charges of $518,000.00 ??????????????????????????????

Well you have to take training, additional software, spares, updates and the total could be a quote for the life of the vehicle - the IDB may quote it that way.

We have multiple iterations between different ministries and divisions

None collaborate with each other to share the costs and data.

All the millions fritted away over the years with government, why it takes a donation to have something like this in this supposed advanced nation?

Let's hope TEMA and the THA use and maintain the drone as required. Hopefully they can show Trinidad how it's done.

How long before this drone gets shot out of the sky by someone with a pellet gun for shits and giggles?

Know quite a few persons who are ex drone enthusiasts due to this.

One thing for sure, some Tobagonians will have some epic aerial video footage of their events now. It have a big wedding coming up and I’m sure that drone would be there helping with “geospatial analysis”.
