Home/ Property insurance

Postby Wolfgang123 » August 25th, 2022, 5:06 pm

Good day tuners, as the topic states I'd like to know which company offers the best coverage and rates for home insurance.
Also are there any insurance policies that covers roof repairs in terms of leaks and damages due to its age?

Home insurance is a thing that many people without a mortgage simply dont have in TnT. It would be best to get approach a few insurance companies, starting with the one your vehicles are insured with, and get an explanation of the process.

Generally you have to start by getting a quantity survey for your home to determine the replacement cost, and can cost anywhere north of a couple thousand dollars depending on your house itself.

Also, ensure that you are thoroughly informed with the explanation of benefits for what your policy covers. As an example, the vast majority of home insurance policies in trinidad do not cover land slips and subsidence. Caveat Emptor!

That’s not a risk that’s a maintenance issue. Insurance won’t care or cover that.

Check out some insurance brokers e.g. Agostini M&M and get quotes. Sometimes you might get a better quote from a broker than you get from the insurance company directly.... so best to check both. I believe you may need a property valuation but they'll tell you for sure.

You can also choose to insure contents of your home such as appliances, jewelry and things like retaining walls, but the value of these items will also affect your premium.
