Anyone have any info on if they’re supporting the Apple Watch cellular? Would be great to go for a run and leave the phone behind.

so basically the same concept as CDMA but with extra steps?

As I keep saying, everything works in cycles, we always revert to where we came from

Very soon we are going back to dumb fridges/stoves/cars.

They should be able to connect any eSIM device, Apple Watch cellular included.
I know a lot of ppl locally opted for the non cellular model Watch because eSIM didn’t work here.

so does a dealer need a special device or access to make the change to your phone to configure esim

I would’ve thought so as well but the list of compatible devices on their website didn’t include the Apple Watch. And even if it worked on the Apple Watch, what they would need to add is a plan that allows the eSIM profile on your phone to work on your Watch so that you have the same number on both devices.

the fee is $50 if you already have a unlocked phone that can take esim

even older models can take esim, i think from iphone 11 and up

so now....people with existing models that have physical sim and esim....can get dual sim or 2 numbers on their phone

one esim, one normal (digicel esim, bmobile normal)

this opens up alot of options besides only with the iphone 14 and being able to buy the USA versions

iPhone 14 Pro with physical SIM tray purchased in Canada with a bmobile SIM and added a Digicel eSIM for TT$50
(not mine)

iPhones from XS and up have sim tray and eSIM - so those phones can now be dual SIM in T&T

Can you transfer an e-sim between different phones like a physical sim?

No would have to go back to the carrier to do that.

You can have multiple eSIMs on one phone though

As long as the phone not locked to any network I would assume. But transferring an esim would be like number porting if it's a different carrier.

Changing your existing physical sim for an esim probably brings little benefit locally…. However, my S22 is dual sim but only has space for one physical sim in the tray…..so next time I travel an esim as my second (foreign) sim would be useful to have the full dual sim functionality.
Good news is the kiosk in Piarco sells foreign esims.

For myself and a lot of Tuners I see on here who change phones very often, this will be an issue. So I'd stay physical sim for as long as humanly possible.

Sad thing is, once Apple does something - the world tends to follow

an e-sim is just like a regular sim except you activate it online with an email or scanning a code.

It's easier to switch phones too.
Old phone> delete old esim profile.
New phone> activate esim profile. Scan code/input code.

When I had my TDMA Ericsson phone which was from the days before sim cards tstt/Bmobile sent me a text to come into gulf city branch for a free color screen Nokia gsm phone and simcard to experience something better.

Waiting for my next invite to experience something new again.

Any idea if and how cellular versions of Apple Watch could work?

Apple Watch 3 and above has an e-sim built in it. It's a very tiny microchip and that's the versatility of an esim. It can be very small, very flat and placed anywhere on the device without having to think about the necessary placement and the physical size and interaction with the user like a traditional sim card.

And now you don't have to even think about going to a store to buy a physical sim card.
Do it from the carrier's mobile app or website and activate it... if they implemented this feature. It would be a shame if they're still forcing you to go to a store just because everything must be backward in Trinidad.

The e-sim move by Apple is a formative push in the right direction for the future of mobile tech, just like when they ended Flash and supported HTML5 and forced the entire web to change.

On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
Tap the My Watch tab, then tap Cellular.
Tap Set Up Cellular.
Follow the instructions for your carrier. (That's if Digicel allows this yet)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207578

But once Digicel does then whatever eSIM you have on your iPhone can be copied to your other cellular-capable Apple devices like your cellular apple watch and cellular iPad etc - that's how it works with the US carriers like AT&T, Verizon etc

I guess someone with a digicel eSIM on their iPhone and a apple watch GPS+Cellular can test it using the instructions above and see if it works

My carrier has esim support but will not provision my watch. So I recommend you don’t hold your breath till Digicel provides this service.
