Or if it's just part of the pattern of climate change in the region? And there were lots of excess rainfall and flooding in many parts of the world in 2022. The Hunga Tonga eruption in January 2022 is the first such that scientists are able to examine with modern tools, instruments, satellites and knowledge of the impacts on climate. They even recorded a terrestrial gamma ray flash in the atmosphere caused by the volcano.
It's been recorded and speculated that several times in human history such large volcanic activity possibly caused devastating weather changes very far from the eruption site. For example the 1815 eruption of Tambora (VEI 7) created the Year without Summer of 1816 in Europe, and some propose that as recent as 2 months later had unusual excessive rainfall effects in Belgium which contributed to the poor conditions for Napoleon's army at Waterloo.
In 1315-1317 there was the Great Famine in Europe, caused by excessive rainfall during the harvest seasons destroying most of the crops. This famine was so bad that it entered even into the lore of folk stories like Hansel and Gretel cannibalism. Recently scientists discovered that Mt. Tarawera in New Zealand exploded several times in 1314 with a VEI 4 -5.
