Businesses urged to install charging ports on premises for electric vehicles

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » March 28th, 2023, 3:48 pm

Businesses across the country have been called upon to follow in the footsteps of Jenny’s on the Boulevard and install charging ports for electric vehicles (EVs) on their premises.

Visham Babwah, the chief executive officer of P&V Marketing, made the appeal during an EV open house event held on Saturday at Jenny’s on the Boulevard, on Cipriani Boulevard, in Port of Spain.

Chief operations officer of Jenny’s, Jonathan Sharma, spoke about the future of driving, saying that the EV concept was here to stay.

Babwah highlighted the tax exemptions offered on all EVs with a range of 250 km to 600 km on a fully charged car, and the three-year or 50,000 km warranty that comes with each vehicle.

Among the EVs showcased at the event were the Nissan Leaf, MG ZS EV, Honda Vezel, Mercedes Benz A250e, Benz EQB and EQC, and the Tesla Model 3.

As the country continues to move towards a cleaner, more sustainable future, it is imperative that more businesses take the lead and invest in EV charging infrastructure, Babwah said.

are EV's really more efficient than ICE's tho?

With all the transmission losses from Power plant to Outlet plus the impact of mining for so many batteries.... Wudn't it be easier to just have each car generate it's own power?

A radical concept I know.

its a big farce
they using electricity generated via fossil fuels to fill the car battery
so no savings to the environment, plus other the mfg of the battery also has environmental cost

Nissan e-power vehicles do that, they use an ICE to generate electricity for the battery drivetrain

EV chargers will work in a premises that expects their patrons to stay for 20-60 minutes. Jenny's will see ROI because customers that come to charge will pay for drinks and appetizers at the least.

I can see chargers working in supermarkets and other restaurants, maybe even car parking lots in San Fernando and PoS. The investment will be intense, and only those with the belly, and more importantly, the capital will follow through.

Is the charging stations going to be free or will there be some sort of monitoring on the pumps to pay for usage?

will not work/

free pumps create expectation -> expectation creates dependence -> dependence creates resentment

in the medium term it will kill the productive, non-free side of the business

Commercial chargers process card payments at the charger. The user prepays and is refunded the difference when they disconnect. The charger owner/lessee sets the surcharge and kwh price.

Math quiz:

What are the surcharge and kwh fees for a one-hour EV charge that is free?

You have 10 minutes.

Go.

Aim of a business is to make a profit so "free charging" which will increase their electricity bill is a no

Big spenders are not the same as high tier folks. Credit cards and instagram stories have people so detached from their reality.

The "if you hadda ask the price" is such a destructive, poor mentality.

You're right. The most that the one hour of electricity will cost Jenny's is TT$8.

Jenny's gets free advertising for the cost of installing the chargers. And the EV driver gets reserved parking near the entrance.

Most of the people with that attitude doh have 'fuckyou' money to begin with. It's either a complete facade for the influencer lifestyle, OR they are the children of new generation money.

Actually I used to work in sales for an electronics place for a lil bit

The poor/middle classs man would ask for a discount. But wouldn't fight you down much. He would just explore that possibility.

But the rich mfs with the last names to suit, used to fight we dong to the dirt dread.

The definitive answer - so as to benefit the uniformed pontificators.
Millennial men – with lots of money – are leading the way on buying electric cars
