What was the moment Fast and Furious abandoned reality?

Postby Monk BANzai » May 14th, 2023, 8:02 pm

Always had a loose relationship with reality but that Brazil one was the last non superhero one they did...think that was Fast Five...at a certain point those movies only made sense if someone said they and their vehicles were given a secret, super serum

"Dom racing a 7,500mph heat seeking missile with a weighty dodge Ice Charger LS-series V8. Dom evades a missile 10x faster than sound, flips car over submarine and lands on thin ice. Submarine explodes feet away from Dom,he somehow survive waves of fire in the presence of oxygen?"

No? The SpaceCar that you could've steered?

My personal Fave

From the time the franchise turned to a Motörhead oceans 11. So maybe from 4.

These fast movies are just superhero movies at this point without the superhero title.

What this franchise needs to revive at this point.
Is a Transformers crossover. Where he has to save the autobots. By becoming one.

Dom-Optimus. 8-)

I'll watch anything with cars..forget story etc. Famalee is at home and the limes at Shakers, Joseph's, Doubles and 2nr drags.
Hence why Top Gear USA I would indulge even though the UK version one was clearly the superior show.

Never forget that Hector is going to be running three Honda Civics with Spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a Motec system exhaust.

I wonder if Motec ever decided to make exhausts?

Suspension of disbelief worked alright on the movies before the Rock showed up.

Not blaming him but the first 2 were B-movies and the nature of those movies means they get away with a lot of crap, like Vin Diesel evading capture in a bright orange Supra in F1 and the Duke of Hazard jump onto the yacht for 2F2F.
Tokyo Drift was an attempt to make a franchise out of the IP even if Blue Eyes and Baldy weren't going to commit to any more movies.
F4 was a reboot/direction shift from (what Hollywood thought was) tuner culture into an action movie with chase scenes and it worked enough.

When the Rock was deemed the only person capable of stopping a team of Californian street racers turned fugitives turned heist legends, it opened the door for the longest runway in the world, launch day game physics, Tej being a cross between Forge and Mr. Wizard and Brian capably fighting Ong Bak.

Don't forget when the Rock had to team up with Jason statham to fend off highly advanced soldiers and a literal super human, using just fire and sticks.

I fed up hoss. Christopher had the right idea, three batman movies and done. Leave it on a high note....

Notice that most people quote/meme the first two movies than any others too.........

Studio execs don't care. They see a cash cow and they want to milk it.

These movies made billions of dollars, and there's probably billions more on the table. No one would say no to that.
