QD32 4X4 Frontier

Postby Esharcangel » December 1st, 2011, 5:19 pm

Hey Tuners,

Need your advice.

I am planning to sell my D22 4X2 2005 Frontier (TBX) to purchase a QD32 4X4 Frontier.
The conflict is, the QD32 Frontier is and older model 2000 (TBJ). I saw the vehicle. In excellent working condition. All suspension parts changed. Recently Painted. Van currently doing around 260K.
Reason for purchase: Want to go 4X4. Just would not have to cash to upgrade on the series right now.

Am i making a good decision? Or will i be in problem later down for parts with the QD32 Frontier, as the model is older.

I think the basic Frontiers that Neal & Massy bringing down still comes with TD27(4x2) & QD32(4x4),so i dont think parts should be a problem, plus there is still a lot of places selling parts in Bamboo.

dont worry you'll still be able to get genuine nissan parts for the QD32 from both Neal & Massy as well as other distributors like The Motorist.

Just be prepared to do major servicing due to the mileage (260K is around middle-life for a diesel engine):

- oil & oil filters
- fuel line flush & filter changes
- radiator flush
- transmission fluid change & clutch check (possible replacement depending on state of the clutch)
- differential oil change (both front and back)
- full suspension check including: shock mount bushings, shocks, all boot rubbers, steering boot rubber, all rack ends, bump stops, leaf-spring shackle bushings, shocks and springs
- check all glow plugs and also full engine check to make sure ur not losing compression
- fuel pump servicing and injector cleaning (check sookhai's for the best service)
- check all belts
- possibly check tappet seals in case there's a leak
- air-conditoning system check
- alignment
- braking system check & servicing, check front pads & rotors, check rear drums, tighten handbrake cables
- check all hoses: radiator, turbo, intake, fuel lines, oil lines, brake lines
- dont forget the hose clamps!!
- change air filter, check for backpressure in turbo
- change power steering fluid
- check clutch fan & clutch flan fluid for proper operation
- check alternator to see if it's charging properly

That's pretty much a comprehensive list of things to look for in an older vehicle, esp at 200+ km and if you don't know its service history.

If you do all of that, you basically have a well reconditioned truck on your hands, and a good few more years left to enjoy it, esp since the frontier in a QD32 engine is a diesel workhorse.

QD32 is a strong engine, it can definately take a beating 8-)
QD32's came in the Frontiers , E24s, Atlas' and Pathfinders
.
avg 650kms on $90-95

the difference with the body parts are
the facelift in the newer - lights, grill, bonnet, fenders
the fender flares are bigger in the newer model
the tailgate is different as well
the older bumper has diamond metal plates at the top rather than the plastic top in the newer

interior/ chassis/ doors/ drivetrain/ cargo box same

manual running hubs arent as convenient but durable

N&M definatley has parts
but ROC in the bamboo is the best place, they'll even find and import the part for ya on request @ a btr price than N&M

seeing that all suspension parts changed you should be in a good place there

you should find out what kind of work the vehicle did tho.........mine is 10yrs old its all original suspension parts without problems or any fuss at all (a lot of offroad driving which turned into casual since im solo. but there's Side B to cut some slack  )

be sure to scope out everything, LH posted some good stuff there

also check the centre bearings on the driveshaft

Hey Zedx20,

The qd32 engine is pretty common, and alot of deisel owers convert to this engine when there original engines are burnt out. so i believe you can try the bamboo, cause some of those businesses bring in the qd32 engine for sale used. if not, try ROC in the bamboo as well. A1 auto right off the highway in tunapuna can also be a good place to check. other than that it'll be the Motorist, and we all know how the prices of part are there.
