YD25 Rebuild

Postby Esharcangel » July 8th, 2013, 8:45 am

Hey Tuners,

Looking for a good deisel mechanic to do a rebuild on my YD25 engine.

I got it checked out by two guys and they told me it's back pressuring.

Anyone knows of any test i can do personally to check that out?

Someone told me there is a hose on the top of the engine going to the intake, they said if I remove the connection from the intake and I see smoke coming through the hose the engine is back pressuring. So i did and saw the smoke.

Anyone who knows a good deisel mechanic who i can get another opinion from and can rebuild the engine, that info would be greatly appreciated.

Wanted to change over to a QD32, but don't have the financing for the conversion right now.

Thanks guys.

Check a guy name Vikash (308-9766) located in Chase VIllage on the main road itself. He has specific knowledge on Frontiers and dealt very straight up with me when I was having issues with my van.

My dad did a conversion from yd25 to qd32, and ended up selling the van cuz he wasnt getting the kinda power he wanted from the new engine...the qd32 is a older and less powerful engine so think b4 u do a conversion.the qd32 is a great engine though.....

^^^ this is true.

QD32 n/a isn't as fast on the road as the yd25.... some ppl make the mistake of thinking a larger displacement will have better speed or better response or better power.

Diesel engines have most of their power at low-end/midrange, and they specialize more in torque than horsepower/speed.

But that QD32 is an iron horse, it will work itself to death for you if you treat it decently.... and since it's a diesel it will last forever (well into the 300,000 - 400,000km range if you take care of it)

@Droppa, checked Jerry's and got an opinion. Great Knowledge, good opinion, he told me about the compression test and what not. Need to check my financing before making my decision, his pricing is "competitive", he said around $8000-$10,000.

@Lighthammer and 14lover, i did alot of reading on the QD32 and also got alot of info on tuner as well. It is indeed a slower engine, but i dont mind, as light hammer said treat her well ad should get about 400,000km from her.

My YD25 is doing 250,000km right nw, which i'm guessing was about 60% of the life i would get out of her. So hopeing a rebuild will get me another 150,000-200,000km. After which i should be able to convert or sell and upgrade.
